Amazing service. Amazing kimchi. Great service. My new favorite K BBQ. Bulgogi, Deaji bulgogi, and all side dishes fresh and delicious.

M-m-m Genwa! I wanted great KBBQ in a place that was a bit more mellow than the spots I'm used to in ktown. I thought that would be as easy as finding a unicorn, but alas, unicorn has been spotted! We had the pork belly and bulgogi. Bulgogi was my face but both were delicious. The bimbimbop was fantastic and I loved the daikon and beef broth. Obviously the sides are a spotlight here so I don't need to add more detail except More Please. Service was great and I loved the fact that they didn't try to kick us out right as we finished. I'm definitely returning

I've been here twice. The food is delicious, and the $60 course option for two is not bad for the amount of food you get. That being said, it's actually too much food, and I don't like wasting it. You can take certain things home, but they have to wrap them and it seems generally frowned upon. I will probably try to figure out a la carte ordering next time. The first time I visited a couple of months ago was during the dinner rush. We didn't have to wait very long, and the service was excellent. When I went back last week (Tuesday evening), the service was friendly and helpful, but they didn't really tend to the grill often enough. In fact, much of our meat got overcooked. Seems like it might be best to go here when it's busy, oddly enough.

  • Tina M.

Came here twice with my boyfriend. Very busy on the weekends! The meat quality is top notch, but pricey! The waiters/waitresses are friendly and very attentive. I think they gave us a free cocktail drink both times.

  • Maeling L.

It was good but very pricey. We got the combo for 3 people and when the meat came out, I didn't think it would be enough, but we were so full when we left. There was soo many side dishes. Most of the wait staff was nice and attentive except 1 lady. She never smiled and didn't say much. Would just come by and cook our food and leave. At the end we wanted dessert and ordered ice cream to cleanse the palate. When we ordered thinking it would be 1 scoop of ice cream, she didn't bother to tell us it was 3. So we had 6 scoops of ice cream among 3 people after stuffing our faces. We were so full when we left. It was good but not worth the drive and the price.

  • J G.

Met a friend for dinner here and was wholly impressed. The food was on point and the service was amazing...great job explaining all the sides (at least 25 of 'em...AT LEAST!) and keeping the grill loaded up with grub. Excited to come back again!

  • Jenny B.

This place has great food but the only reason I'm giving it a bad rating is because they have HORRIBLE service. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to bring us our water. Even then she hurriedly set it down and rushed away immediately without asking whether we wanted to order any further drinks or food.

Hands down one of the best legit korean bbq ive had to date. MUST TRY TRY TRY!!!! You will never be disappointed and their selection are on point!!! Seafood Pancake is a must!

Horrible place full of rude staff. Came here with an associate. He ordered one meat, and I the other. They bring his meat to the table and begin to cook it. After a while I ask where my meat is. I am told that I can only have one meat in the grill at a time. They proceed to tell me I have to wait until my friend finishes his meat if I want mine cooked on the grill. Otherwise my meat will be cooked in the back. So now I'm sitting here, watching my friend eat, as I starve waiting to eat. NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. EVER. Way better Korean BBQ in town and I'm picky about my meats.

The prices for this restaurant are INSANELY higher than average for kbqq.. granted the service is better and their array of side dishes is off the charts i dont think that validates its steep prices... their cold noodles we're almost double the price than what you'd find in ktown.. throughout my dinner i was jumping between 3 and 4 stars.. started at 3 because of the prices and quality of food.. starting going towards a 4 when they kept bringing in all of the side dishes (which is actually my favorite part of kbbq).. but definitely dropped down back down to 3 after they forgot to serve us a part of our combo meal... each one comes with japchae and they left that part out.. granted it's not a HUGE deal... but keeping their high prices in mind that's a lot of value we lost... realizing this as I was walking out of the restaurant where it was too late to mention anything I left sad and feeling incomplete If I'm eating that area I'll choose a different nearby restaurant.. if I want kbbq. I'm going to ktown.

my favorite Korean bbq in la. all the sides are great and this location hardly ever has a wait. it's a huge place so they can seat a ton of people. the other location always has a line which I try to avoid

  • O M.

I don't ever go to the typical all you can eat bbq. They're ayce for a reason. I'm no food critic but it's always difficult to find a great quality bbq house because they either vanish it always go downhill. At least in my decades of kbbq experience here and outside of the U.S. genwa surprisingly delivered! Banchan serving and variety was excellent. They served great dishes. I always try the fermented dishes first -- indicating if they really do know what they're doing. Glad it wasn't like boonshik type cause that's miserable. Tried the menu set E with additional orders of other meat and added other traditional Korean dishes. Food consistently were all delicious. Marbling and quality of meats were excellent. Grill needs to be adjusted often since different meats require diff range of cooking temps. A lot of patrons and the servers don't acknowledge that. That's my only feedback. Service was spotty since they were busy but often had to remind them of missing things and re-ordering few times of stuff that should've been asked or attentive about. Will I return - yes. Easy to host and convince even newcomers to Korean cuisine. Valet is 5.50 (cheap for BH). Service could be better. Most of all grilling knowledge is Top priority. Need to improve. Food is excellent. Items ordered: prime galbi, kotsal, rib eye, wagyu, tongue, brisket, shrimp, scallop, assorted mushroom is a must, neng myun and casserole soups. Next time to try: yookhwe.

oh sure, the other $10 AYCE Korean bbq might sound cheaper. however, at least at this place, your clothes "don't" sink afterwards! good quality meat I wish they had Coke products instead of Pepsi the banchan are neat

  • D T.

I came here with a friend and got the Course A ($60 split between 2 people). My friend actually got into a meter parking space near the front of the store. There is valet parking in the back though. Entering in, you could tell the place was clean. It's modern decor, and I was happy to find that BBQ smoke did not permeate throughout the halls. There are some more private rooms to the side that would be great for large parties of people. I imagine it would be a great celebratory dinner place. For meat, we got the Prime Galbi and Cha Dol. The Cha Dol was alright, and the Prime Galbi was amazing - soft, juicy, well-marinated. An important thing to note is that it is NOT all you can eat KBBQ BUT you are most likely going to leave stuffed. The side dishes they provide are interesting and numerous. They also help cook the meat for you. For us, the service was quick and accommodating. They give you a warm towelette and a lollipop at the end of the meal. It's a nice touch. For $30, it is a price that might seem steep for a deal that is not AYCE, but you are able to taste high quality meat. You will also be given plenty of food. I left stuffed to the brim. Having it not be AYCE kind of helps you focus on the meat and savor the taste rather than having it be a stuff-your-mouth fest. Overall, it was a great experience. Sadly, it's ruined AYCE KBBQ places for me.

Me and my wife love food and we are food testers and critics. I love food anI love korean food I think one of the best kinda food out there. I have tried many authentic and none authentic bbq korean restaurants and I have to say this place is the winner by far. The staff are amazing and friendly. They do the bbqing for you. The quality of the meat is very high and fresh and you can taste it. The appetizers are amazing and many which makes it really fun. Over all this is the Korean BBQ place to go to. No where else!

Paleo, Gluten Free and Dairy free friendly!! This place is perfect if you are hungry, looking for something casual but don't want to necessarily pig out an a bunch of over oiled/fried food served at other family style restaurants. The restaurant itself is just a bunch of booths and also includes two private rooms (seems perfect for a fun birthday or some sort of casual celebration). It's an easy place to go to before a movie or just spending a casual night out :) I don't know much about Korean BBQ but judging off this experience and a few times before at other restaurants, I don't think its that complicated - good meat and a bunch of tasty pickled veggies. This place also makes the ordering super easy - aside from just individually ordering different dishes, you also have the choice to choose from a few set menu items. With those set menu items they will just bring you out a variety of things to eat. Perfect for a guilt free easy dinner. I already definitely want to go back. Loved it :)

My friends and I always used to go to Korea Town for OG Kbbq, but now that Genwa has opened up in Beverly Hills on Restaurant Row, we go there all the time. It is NOT AYCE which is what we usually used to go to, but the prices are ok. We usually just order a few platters of meat and it comes with all the same sides (and more) as you get in K-town. For a group of 4 of us, if we are very hungry, we usually order 3 types of meat (generally brisket, short ribs and bulgogi). You also dont really cook the food on your own here. They bring it to you and put it on the grill for you and come by once in a while to flip the meats around, but you can flip it yourself a bit here n there too. The sides are all really good, but the only drawback is that the sides are really small. Like really really small. So we end up asking for more and more sides but its ok, they bring them. Of the sides that we really really like, we usually ask for a larger side and they almost always bring it. Also, the quality is much much better than at the AYCE places. The cuts of meat are much leaner and tastier. I would highly recommend it. Last time, 4 of us went and it was $30 each (but we didnt have drinks--just water). Not bad and you also dont leave smelling like beef. I am a big fan. Yay!

My mom wanted to take my wife out for her birthday. She has been wanted to try Genwa for some time so I made a reservation, well at least I thought I had one. We arrived at Genwa and they could not find our reservation. In a bit of a panic they sensed our concern since it was 7:30 on a busy Saturday, and fortunately for all of us we were seated right away. My mom was definitely skeptical about Korean BBQ, thinking more of a place that is all you can eat, beer guzzling, sticky table, smoky room, with your clothes wreaking of smoke long after you leave these types of restaurants. By the end of the meal Genwa's virtually smoke free room (smoke pulled down through BBQ), with clean and modern atmosphere changed her mind completely of what K-BBQ could be and some feel should be. Dan our server was amazing. He made our experience one of the best I've had in general, and especially for a K-BBQ restaurant where you typically have little interaction with the waiter. We tried 3 different meats, which is way too much for much for only 3 people, but of course I finished it all. All were good but the Galbi was the standout for me. You also get so many banchan, salad, and soup. Its so much food, but it isn't about quantity only, the quality is there too and much appreciated. It was casually mentioned during the night that it was Lissa G's birthday. We have a pact that we will never have them sing happy birthday to us in a restaurant. Well in this case I didn't even ask, and it was a good one with a candle that would not go out and even poppers with streamers! Embarrassment yes, did she enjoy it and was she surprised - definitely! Genwa is more expensive then the typical AYCE places, and a little more expensive than the al la carte K-BBQ but between the great service, the modern good looking restaurant, and of course most importantly the authentic food Genwa is place to come back to. Now just work on that reservation thing!

One of my favorite restaurants in la!!! The food is simply amazing, and I definitely recommend you come to the restaurant with friends! Great ambiance, and the waiter Daniel H was nice and helpful! Explained the whole menu to us, and recommended the best of the best!!! A definite must go to! Ask for Daniel H!!!

I went her last night based on a friend's recommendation. It's the most fun I've had at a restaurant in some time. The staff is awesome. The service is on point; attentive but not coming around more than necessary. This how a restaurant should be run. The food is very good quality and reasonably priced. I have no idea what I ate because they bring a bunch of things. Then came the shots! And back they went and then MORE food. Yes! Hard to starboard ! Hard to port ! I've never eaten so much in my life and then boom! More shots ! I don't know if they were on the house or what happened. At the end they bring a tray and I thought they were a desert but they poured water over then presto! Hand towels. They win based on service and atmosphere. It's a party.

This place was recommended by a close friend and I have yet to be disappointed! The service was fast, polite, and overall amazing. Glad they have valet services since we all know how parking can be in BH. My wife and I had an exquisite meal that I have yet to find anything like it.

Coming from an Asian culture and lifestyle. Food wasn't up to standard. A far cry from what I tasted in Singapore and in Korea. Chicken should be more tender but was slightly over cooked. Seafood wasn't as fresh as I expect it to be. Will give it a miss next time round when I am in LA

You know when I first got there with my GF I was told the waiting time would be 15 minutes. After waiting for another 30 minutes I approached the And was told that I wound have to wait for another 15 minutes. Upset and disappointed knowing that I couldn't go anywhere else and get immediate service I waited. After 45 minutes of waiting we were able to eat. Everything from there was absolutely perfect. The food, the service the drinks were absolutely amazing. Everyone there was so polite and kind and very friendly. I was so pleased that before I left I actually apologized for acting like a jerk. Love this place can't wait to go back again.

Great service and excellent BBQ meats selection too!! They also have vegetarian options for a lighter menu. Great atmosphere for any occasion to enjoy with friends or the entire family. Price point is high but quality is top notch here. Come and try something different in the heart of the city. Ask for Henry!! He is Awesome!!!

Best Korean BBQ I've had in LA! The meat they use is extremely good (nearly perfect marbling) and the table display compliments it perfectly. I was with a group of four visiting from Kansas City and we had one friend that was not as keen about trying new food, but he was completely sold here. The thing that I loved most about this place was the service. We had Kristie as our waitress and she was SO attentive and friendly. They really rounded out the experience with a plethora of food, drinks, and good conversation. When I have more friends visiting, I will be sure to come back here in a heart beat! The price is just right for the amount of food you get. We definitely went home very satisfied. Do not pass up on the Soju either! It really made the night a lot of fun!!

Where do I begin? Anyways, was down here for some stuff and went on yelp to find a place that I wanted to eat at. I saw there were two Genwa's , but decided to go to this( this takes reservations, the other does not). Anyways, It's a nice area in Beverly hills, and across from the famous SLS Hotel. So, I got seated( made a reservation), and my friends and I got a table. Our water was friendly, kind, helpful, and informative. We did not know what to order, but then they helped us choose which one. We ended up getting the Korean chicken, beef, and bimbimbap. They came out with a lot of appetizers( ya know at the typical Korean place) and I mean a lot. Dishes and dishes of things like kim chi, soba noodles, potatoes, tofu, and all that good stuff. It was delicious! The meet was also delicious, tender juicy, and had the right amount of spice. The bimbimbap was crunchy, had lots of flavor, and was a large portion. They also gave salad, which I did not expect. At the end of the meal, they gave us towelettes( really cool of how it becomes a towelette), sweet rice punch, and rock candy. Overall, friendly service, and I forgot to mention but they do valet parking. And it was quite pricey, but I mean it's Beverly Hills. Will be back.

havent been to the original location, but the wait there when i called was a good 1+ hours on a saturday evening. my dining partner and i shared the 2 person combo for 70 dollars, and we were definitely full. there was a good selection of meat that wasnt fatty. the quality of the meat was expected at this price point. the banchan was excellent. they even offered higher end items like dried squid. (no raw crab like park's unfortunately). the soondoubu was the only interesting dish of the night in the sense that it tasted creamier (?) than usual. service was great. we had a super polite and attentive server that didnt mind refilling our banchan three times.

Dining out on Valentines weekend is never a good idea unless you have solid reservation hold. I called Genwa few days ago at their Hancock Park location at 8pm, walked in, and found out there is a huge backup lines and I was told to expect to wait for 2+ hours. Decided to call Beverly Hill Location to give a shot, was told the wait was less than half hour so I decided to rush over there instead, not that I received the same quality food, but the service was even better here. For two people, I recommend Combo A for dinner, it consists of all the basic courses of Korean meal - Starters (cold pumpkin soup), Salads, 25 different side dishes, steam eggs, japchae, soon tofu, choice of rice (white or brown), prime kalbe, and a choice of meat dish (I pick chado, which is the sliced beef). The quality of beef were decent, if not great. The portion of fats were adequate. Unlike most all you can eat restaurants, they actually cooked for you, and to my surprise, the servers keep checking on us to make sure the meats were cooked to perfect level that we can enjoy it fully, which is very unusual for Korean restaurant. Unlike other Korean restaurants that focus on value, this place focus on level of services. All the requests were handled property and in a timely manner and people will ask you if you need anything if you seems like you are looking for service. The meal portion were good enough for two people, actually, more than enough. I could not finish all of my foods! Eating slowly actually fills you up more. Parking is valet as most of the restaurants on this row. However, if you come on the right timing, there are free street parking available right next to the restaurant. Highly recommended this location as well. It will change your view towards typical Korean hospitality.

Okay place. Meat is above average. It's definitely a higher end type of place. I think the atmosphere is missing authentic Korean BBQ feel, and they made it too Hollywood. The good side of this is that you won't have the BBQ smell when you come out. Their stoves have nice direct vacuum system on the site just above the meat level.

Wow! Slow start as we didn't get any immediate service but when it came it came with professional enthusiasm and great Korean BBQ. My 11 year old son and I just loved it. Perfect for families and come hungry. Valet parking available and don't forget the kimchee.

Yummmmm. The meat we ordered just melts in your mouth. We did the prime galbi and the marinated bulgogi and they were both fantastic. The prime galbi is truly a treat. The kimchis were also good. Our waiter took the time to explain everything and monitored our meat so it was cooked perfectly. Can't wait to come back.

Always delicious, always fun, and the owner is a sweetheart. We love coming here for the bulgogi and the premium kalbi, you dont' smell of smoke since they have excellent ventilation and there is a ton of food with each order. The best kbbq outside of koreatown I've found in LA so far....

Their side dishes are amazing. Each of dish has unique taste. And as Korean, I know what is good side dishes, and their side dishes were something that someone put the best effort. Their meat quality is the best. Probably this is one of the best Korean bbq you can ever experience. There are several meat places around this restaurant such as Fogo de Chao, Kyu kaku, stinking roses, Lawry`s and so on...So I was wondering why this restaurant opened among this hard competitors. I visited here yesterday and I knew this restaurant has their own specialty. If you want to experience real Korean food, you should come here. Kind staff, nice food...it was totally worth it. Definitely coming back again.

Completely in love with this place. We opted to pay $5 for valet instead of trying to find parking on the street. Went here with my sister and we were seated immediately. One of our servers even said I looked like I had been there before haha. We ordered Course A which was for 2 people, but could have easily been for more. They brought out more sides than I could count and then the meat. Course A comes with Prime Galbi with another choice of other meats. We chose bulgogi. I liked the galbi better only because of the texture. The sides were delicious. Japchae was awesome. So many good things I can't even name. Course A was $60 and I didn't even feel bad about the price being a little high because the food and service were so good. If you're ever in LA, you NEED to stop by and have a meal. We even got lollipops after paying :)

Excellent food quality. Excellent service. Reasonably priced. Nice ambiance. Clean. What more can you ask for? I highly recommend it. One of our favorites for date night.

Great Korean BBQ restaurant! The quality of their food is fantastic but the portion sizes are a little small for me. To be fair, the main entre comes with lots of side dishes which are absolutely delicious. Will definitely go here again!

The best Korean BBQ in all of Los Angeles. You have not experienced Korean BBQ until you have eaten here. They are overly friendly and I can't express enough how good the meat quality is. I need to keep this short because the meat is cooking in front of me and my taste buds are salvating. Nom non times

My favorite Korean restaurant in LA. Great banchan's, awesome meat quality, best bimbimbop and very friendly staff. My only gripe is they close very early for LA. They take last call and basically close at 9:45 at both locations on a Saturday night. Really feel like they would pull a lot more business (mine included) if they extended their hours on the weekends until 11.

I have had a fair amount of experience with kbbq (about once a month) and have gone to the original genwa in downtown a few times and this one twice. The atmosphere is decent but very nonkorean, reminds me of a cheesecake factory. The table grill is pretty bad. It's very small, the flame is non uniform and goes out a lot, and is very recessed. This makes careful grilling difficult and frustrating. The waitresses also are way too intrusive with the grill and will often randomly just come by and toss everything around even though you might have just flipped it. They will often use the larger raw meat tong to pass out the cooked meat WTF! All this made the experience less than pleasant. The waitress also didn't know the drink menu very well and even brought, opened, and poured out the wrong sake. On the plus there are more side dishes then average and the meat quality is above average. All in all unpleasant and won't come back. Would prefer Soowon over this place. In the end though my take

I have been to the other location on Wilshire before and I have a better feeling about this place. It is open and arid and the decor is awesome. I used to eat at Woo Lae Oak, which was good but this place is better and the food is supreme! I always leave Genwa happy and I truly suggest anyone to come here. There is valet in the drive or if you can find parking on the street, good luck. There are sometimes spots on the side street or behind the restaurant.

Hmmmm, I have been to all types of KBBQ, $10 all you can eat to the fancy upscale joints. This place is the fancy up scale type. They have a flare to them, I give them that. There are a few things that make them unique. I would say this is a perfect place to take a date because of their presentation and environment. However for the price they charge, there are better places.

I had dinner at Genwa with my boyfriend yesterday and everything was great! Our server Debbie recommended that we get Combo A which was perfect to share between the two of us! For the meat, we chose Chadol and Prime Galbi. We also ordered their kimbap which has bulgogi and kimchi inside. YUM! Service here was top notch. Debbie was attentive and super sweet (Did I mention that she was freaking gorgeous?) She came to our table very often to cook our meat and refill our side dishes and tea. This place stands out because they give you GARLIC when you ask (most kbbq places dont give you garlic- they'll tell you they "ran out" but in reality, they dont give it out because it is expensive), give you yummy drink and candy in the end, and provide 5 star service. I took off one star because of the expensive price tag..especially the kimbap which was $15

This place is by far my Favorite Korean bbq spot. Food is bomb and atmosphere is great. The workers are wonderful. Gina was amazing, the best customer service ever. I give them five stars for their food and cuz Gina provided the best customer service. I've been to plenty of Korean bbq restaurants and Genwa is just so different. It's not stuffy like most places and the meat is extra fresh. This is one Korean bbq spot I would recommend to all my friends and family.

Super delish! I have never seen so much side dishes in my life! And they were all good! We had combo B but substituted the soju for the glass noodles, as I am pregnant and couldn't drink. The food was pretty flavorful, the only think I wasn't too crazy about was the stone hot rice (I can't spell the name, I'm sorry), I think they used ground meat and too much so I was a little bummed. But over all delish, I would go back again and if it wasn't so far I would be there right now.

You can't go wrong with this place. For $30 a person, my friends and I shared Dinner selection D - 4 types of meat, about 20 banchan (with unlimited refills), a bottle of soju, bibimbap, and soup. Meat was great quality - not fatty and sliced perfectly. Banchans varied from anchovies to spicy cucumber to raw oysters to kimchi. Best part about this place? you don't smell like korean BBQ afterwards! Their grill is inset into the table and there must be some vent around the stove because the air isn't thick with grill smoke. Great decor and ambiance - great for a date or double date! Would definitely come back.

Excellent place to go with a young group. The food is excellent and the service is number 1. The price is a bit on the high side, but certainly worth it. The only thing that I don't like about this place is their combination dishes are not a better value than ordering dishes separately. So if you know what you like, it is more economical to order separately instead of the combination for 4 or 5 people, etc. But if you tell your server you'd like to get a better value, he will tell you what to order.

Love this upscale Korean bbq restaurant! The quality of the food, the banchans (side dishes), presentations of the food, and the environment is excellent. The best of part about this place, however, is the attention to the details that they put into to make a great dining experience. We went to dinner with our 2 kids and I loved how they provided wet towels for the kids to wipe their hands prior to eating. They also provide complimentary soup, rice, and gim (roasted seaweed) for the kids. From the moment we sat down to the very end of the dinner, we were very well taken care of. We ordered the marinated galbi, which was pretty yummy. We also ordered the wagyu beef, it was good but I'm not sure if it was worth the price. Overall, this place is a great dining experience if you're tired of the usual Korean AYCE bbq place.

This place has the most Korean sides I've ever had at any Korean restaurant. I counted 18 side dishes, and basically everyone is pretty good. Service was good and restaurant itself was kept pretty clean. I like how they have valet parking at the restaurant since parking on the side of the street there is very difficult to find. If I remember correctly, it was $4 or $6?

Five stars for service. Had more fun interacting with staff than eating. Waiter cooks and you wont smell of smoke. Lots of side dishes. Dessert was good. This is not your regular KKbbque restaurant. More of a high end bbque place. Good quality of meat but Gyu ka ku is better tasting. Still I would go back.

We tried the 4 person set menu for $145. Everything was perfect tonight. The two hostess were super friendly. We were seated within a couple of minutes even though we were more than an hour late. Our server Gunny was fun and totally accommodating to our party. He and the team ensured we ate well and were well liquored. The side dishes were flavourful.

How is gyu kaku across the street still in business with this gem on the block!? The family meals are ridiculously large and serve well over the recommended amount of people it serves. This restaurant has the most amazing atmosphere (super romantic for a date), service, and food!!!!

I just love this place because the quality of all foods is good. All servers are so nice, I always choose here when I have to treat somebody from other cities/countries. I am personally Korean, this is the best place to be. One more thing, it was so good that they actually explain for all small dishes to my guest, I touched by that. I will definitely visit again in next couple of weeks.

My husband and I have been to almost every korean BBQ joints there are in southern california, but none compares to this place. For the quality, nothing compares. Lots of good side dishes (ban chan). Service is also excellent. Neun Myung (cold noodle) is still better at Soo Won BBQ though.

This place is pricier than other Kbbq spots but it is definitely worth it! My boyfriend and I got the A-combo. Starts off with an appetizer made of pumpkin, 2 kinds of meat (prime galbi & brisket), tofu soup, steamed egg, & 25 different sides! Oh and the meal ends with a sweet rice drink :) The meal was delicious and will definitely return!

I LOVED this location!!!! +1 star for taking reservations, so we don't have to wait a ton of hours like the other locatoin. +1 star for the interior decor. It was gorgeous. Total balance of new vs. old, wood vs. metal. They had all the elements. +1 star for the value/food. It was $109 for a package for 3 people. It came with soju. For the quality you go, for under $40/person, I felt it was so worth it. +1 star for the service and side dishes. We had 23 different side dishes!!! OMG, I could get full on those alone. +1 star as we ran into a celebrity at the table next to us. Nasir from Magic! =) My new favorite KBBQ in LA. Perfect spot to take a date. I can't believe the prices are so reasonable.

Probably have eaten at this location about 5 times. I actually prefer the less fancy Miracle Mile location, not that the food is really any better, nor is the décor any better. In fact, this location is a wonderfully looking place, with tons of room and space. Yet for some reason is just doesn't rock as the Wilshire location does. So, last week once again I had lunch with my Korean partner in town for more big deals. I take him to Jewish Deli's, Steakhouses and Italian joints and he takes me to Korean restaurants and Karaoke bars. By the way my pipes still work, not like Merman, but good enough. So last week, we met. O, it was so hot out and it took me 20 minutes to get some water in this place, though the great side dishes came and went and went and came. I told my partner, a Kim Jung-Un look a like, to keep it lighter than normal as I needed to be able to survive this hot day. O, the meal was terrific but for some reason I do prefer the other place as the intimacy and the local KTown crowd is better than this BevHills wannabe lip injection group.

Very awesome experience!! Got to give credit to my waiter for the evening, Henry!! As first-timers, Henry offered us very good options from the Dinner menu. The food came out at a fast and consistent pace. The service was perfect. And most importantly we had a great first visit to this resturant!! Must-Haves: Peach Mojito and Kelp Noodles Thanks a bunch Henry!

Beautiful ambiance, fantastic service and quality food packed with flavor and variety. Brought my brother here for his birthday and Debbie and James made us feel awesome. They had Birthday shots with us (on the house) and made sure we were fully satisfied with everything. Highly recommend the prime rib beef=so much flavor (a bit fatty but absolutely delicious and tender). After experiencing so much flavor with all the mini bite six appetizers (forgive me for not knowing the appropriate name for these little dishes of wonder) we were sad to taste the lobster and shrimp that was not marinated but very fresh. So Debbie brought us freshly melted butter and custom dipping sauces to amp things up!thank you Debbie and James! In a nutshell :if u love spice and kick get the kimchi soup. If you love juicy mewt:get the prime rib Wash it down with cold soju infused with fresh squeezed lemon. Gorgeous environment, clean, friendly and welcoming staff, excellent food.

Very very good beef barbecue but everything else was just OK We came in the afternoon and got their lunch specials. We ordered the kalbi, bulgogi, and their beef bibimbap. The kalbi and bulgogi were marinated very very nicely. And the meat was fresh and very tender. Definitely one of the best beef I've had. The sizzliby bibimbap was terrible. I suspect it was Americanized. It had a strong taste of butter inside and absolutely no taste of the sesame oil that it was suppose to have. And not enough of the red chili paste and the rice was way too overcooked and became hard to chew. So I say stay away from ordering that here. The side dishes were plentiful but not all that tasty or fresh. The kimchi was actually bad too. How can a Korean restaurant serve bad kimchi?! Other than that, service was decent and the place was nice and modern. Overall, come here for the beef, it is awesome. But stay away from other items I'll say

I must be the only one not impressed by Genwa! The swanky ambiance did not match the food quality or service. We ordered the Set Menu F, which was a decent amount of food for 5 people. It came with short rib (which I thought could have been more marbled/fatty), a piece of steak (probably the best cut of meat in the whole combo), marinated short rib, marinated bulgogi, shrimp, scallop, and soups. If I'm paying $160 for a combo, I would not want to be eating bulgogi, which is typically one of the cheaper beef cuts. At first, I was excited about the 20+ different banchan dishes because that's why I love Korean food so much. But when you share it among 4 other people, it's gets a little awkward--should I take this bite or save it for someone else?? I know you can always ask for refills, but I just felt like a greedy pig sampling all of them. I wish they would've considered, if there are 5 people, fill the dish with more than 3 cucumbers. Also ordered tempura green tea ice cream. The server said that it's a big portion to share, but it felt smaller than ordering a cup of ice cream or the coconut mango sorbet. It's just shareable in the sense that it's pre-cut into 4 pieces. A fine dining pet peeve that I have is when there are cracked dish ware. One of the ice cream orders was served on a cracked dish--if I don't use cracked glass at home, why would I use it at a fancy restaurant?? As for the service, wait staff were not observant. Normally when I eat at other kbbq joints, I would put some empty bowls at the front of the table where the servers cook so that I can get refills or just clear out the clutter on the table. They never picked up empty bowls. Had to keep asking for refills of salad, radish wraps, rice noodle wraps, and banchan. As often as they came by to cook, they never asked if we needed anything. They also dropped a few items and/or tripped clumsily. One also sneezed in his hand and kept cooking (*cringe*!!). Another brought beer glasses 15 minutes after the beer had arrived. Not the dining experience I was expecting from one on La Cienega restaurant row.

Updating from 3 to a 5 star. This is one of the first reviews that I did when I first moved to LA and was a newb when it came to traffic and driving. I originally gave this place a three star because I was comparing it to ACE buffets in k-town/Orange County. But after living here for over a year now, who the heck has time to go all the way out to ktown/OC for kbbq? Giving this place a 5 star for the location, quality of meat and EXCELLENT service. I came again on a busy Saturday night. We originally were told we had a 45 minute wait. The owner of the restaurant came around and gave all the people waiting free mango soju shots, on the house! The icing on the cake was that we didn't even end up waiting the full 45 minutes. It only ended up being a 18 minute wait. Score!

Got course A for two ($60). Side dishes good and plentiful. Soondubu was okay.. Rice a tad too sticky. Japchae not overly great. Dry. Prime galbi and bulgogi was marinated well! Very delicious. Service was decent. They help you cook the meat half the time. I had to keep asking for refills on my water. Otherwise, they were nice. Random cute extras like warm towelette and candy on a stick at the end. :) Place looks very nice. Modern Asian feel.

I'm sad to say our last experience at this Genwa was a huge disappointment. We arrived before 5PM on a Saturday with our 15 month old. As we have since it opened. (We actually were some of the first guests when the Hancock Park location opened - so we have been going for years) The restaurant only had a few tables that were booked. Now I do understand it's a Saturday... we told the hostess who's name I believe was Susie or Cece (sp?) that we would be in and out before 6. Our daughter goes to bed at that time. When you have a little one you learn to eat fast. They have a particular table that does not have the gas knob located at the end. This is important for the high chair placement due to our little one exploring new things. We didn't want this to be one of them. We asked if we could have that table as we have done many times in the past. The hostess flat out said "No!". She gave us the table next to it. We then tried to explain how our toddler would play with the gas knob and it wouldn't be safe. She said "Sorry, this is the only table I have." We looked around and realized quickly that she didn't want to help us. Rather she wanted to show she was in charge. We quickly grabbed our things and left. I'm sure Jeannie (sp?) the owner would not approve of her behavior. As now they have lost some faithful customers. The food is amazing! Service was terrible. #disappointing

I regret that I did not frequent this establishment sooner. Food: the menu has a very decent selection of meats and the side dishes are fantastic. I admit the sides have a small portion scale but you can request for more refills (which are free) and its better to start with a small sample to see if you like it or not before asking for extras. The prices admittedly are on the higher end but worth the service and excellent dishes. The Pa Jun (fried cake) is enormous and should be shared with 4-6 people. Service: the waiters are superb, friendly, and professional. Unfortunately their hostesses do not merit any praise. The hostess stands are staffed by a small group of pretentious girls who lack any grace or courtesy: they are abrupt in manner and snipe at patrons for no apparent reason. I advise future diners to minimise interactions with the hostesses as much as possible. Ambiance: fantastic ventilation for a BBQ restaurant, sleek interiors, with plenty of private corners for an intimate dinner or groups.

It's hard to me to really rate this place based off of comparisons because I have only been to one other KBBQ, so here is my review based off that one comparison: Price wise, this place I thought was really well priced. It was $60 for both my fiancé and I. It was one of those family kind of meals. We had 2 meats, noodles, rice, and this tofu soup thing. The noodles were ok, and only one out of the two meats that we had was VERY good, the other one kind of tasted weird. All the little sauces for me were extreme overkill, but maybe you like that I don't know it's personal preference but it didn't bother me, I just didn't really eat any of it. I think my favorite thing was definitely the tofu soup thing. I'm sorry I don't remember what it was called but I remember that it was so good, I poured it all over my rice mmmmmm. Reason for the 3 stars? The food was okay, some amazing things some not, but I really didn't like that the food was basically thrown in your face 2 minutes after ordering. I felt rushed and that I had to eat right away. Especially because the waiters didn't let me cook the meat on my own and little by little so that way it wouldn't get cold. I don't know if it was for a reason that they cooked it for me, but I'm used to the meat being put on the table and you cook it however you like.

I ate here about a week ago and I really have been wanting to come back since then. I've eaten at a lot of Korean BBQ restaurants from the OC to Rowland Heights to Koreatown and this by far was the best quality meat I've had. My friend and I ordered the B course for 2 people and we surprisingly got full really fast. Susan, our waiter, was super friendly and really informative about the banchan and the different meats. We came on a busy night, and she looked like had a lot of tables to attend to, but she still made sure to come back and check on us every so often. She also helped us cook the meat when she brought it over, which was great for me because that is my least favorite part about kbbq. Another thing to note is the ambiance- it's really modern and not stuffy and smoke-filled like most kbbq places and you don't end up leaving the restaurant needing to shower because your hair smells like meat. It's a good place to have dinner before a night out for that reason and also because their drinks here are amazing. I was never really a fan of Soju until I tried the different fruit flavors they had to offer. The prices are a bit higher than most places and it's not AYCE, but you are paying for the exceptional service and the quality of the food. Also, don't forget to order the Tempura Ice Cream :)

This place was one of our favorites. A bit on the expensive side but the banchan selection cannot be beat and the meat is good quality. Really great for big groups and their service is great too. It's also nice not to have to go all the way to Ktown all the time. Parking is a pain though. I don't usually like to valet so if you don't too, you might have to park around the corner. The pork belly is amongst the best here.

I don't give out too many 5 stars but this is the second time I have been at this location and been to the other on Wilshire twice as well. 4x visiting two different locations has proved to me this place deserves all the stars. It's clean, modern and more importantly the ventilation is the best ever. You can actually come here and eat and then go on a date without having everyone give u the evil eye as little dogs chase you down the sidewalk. The food amazing. Is it as good as Parks BBQ? Def on par and about the same price point. What separates this place from the Ktown places (which I love) is the service. You feel welcome immediately. The servers are amazing and nice plus very attentive and with a great smile. Kind of like going into a 5 star resort and you immediately notice the customer service. This is it! Order spicy pork bellies and prime Galbi. You won't go wrong at all. Plus a million banchan dishes. Not cheap but if you want to go to a Korean BBQ place and feel special and have attention and have them cook everything this is the place.

I was just here last night for dinner. Parking: Valet parking only. No street parking near the restaurant on La Cienega. Food: We ordered 2 orders of kkot sal and of course it was delicious.. They had their usual side dishes and rice paper. My favorite was the spicy fish cake and tofu in soy sauce. Seriously, all their side dishes are yummy. My favorite is kkot sal because I think their kkot sal is the best quality. Park's bbq has great quality too but I choose Genwa over Park's. Service: Service was exceptional last night. The waitress asked how we liked our meat to be cooked. This was literally the first time the server asked us this question. We said medium rare and the server cooked the meat and cut it in half and put it on a plate. Every time I went to Genwa, servers were always busy and we usually cooked it ourselves towards the end but last night, from the beginning to end, we were fully serviced! After we were done eating, they brought us nooroongji (boiled rice soup) and sik-hae (sweet rice drink) and gave us cute lollipops. Genwa is definitely on the pricier side and some might say it is over priced but personally I think the quality is worth paying for. Awesome food, awesome service, great ambience. I would definitely go back.

We had our company dinner here and the servers there were amazing! They arranged soju bomb for us ON THE HOUSE! Meat quality was fantastic and the little dishes was very interesting. As a Asian girl who been to a lot if different Korean restaurant, I believe Genwa has the most amount of different variety of small dishes. WARNING!!!!! This place can be pricey.

I ate here last night and even after a 40 mile bike ride I am still stuffed Really nice staff and nice decor. The restaurant at 8:30 pm was packed with all types of people amd the great smell of kimchee and marinated beef grilling was in the air There were three of us and we ordered Course E for 4 people There were no less than 20 small unlimited kimchee plates placed in a double circle around the grill Then the meats and seafoods grilling in the BBQ Bimbimbop was crunchy and delicious Great place. Great fun. Great people I will be back

One of the best Korean BBQ you will ever find. They have two locations one in Mid Wilshire and the one in Beverly Hills. This location has either valet or street parking only. The meat quality is first class. Genwa gives close to 30 side dishes for your dinning experience I highly recommend the spicy chicken and the rib eye steak. They also have excellent fish dishes with great soups. No matter what you order you will not go wrong. The service first class from A to Z. All the staff members are super friendly and very kind. Hands down one of the best Korean BBQ places in the LA area. If you are coming for a special moment or just for dinner you will enjoy dinning experience. Quality 10+ Service 10+ Vibe 9+ Flavoring 9+

5 stars because everything was seriously awesome. My boyfriend and I came to Genwa not knowing the FIRST thing about Korean BBQ. The menu has tons of options but our waiter Payton thoroughly explained everything and made the whole process much easier than we anticipated. The appetizers we chose: kimchee fried dumplings & the sizzling bibimbap. We really liked both! We ordered course A (the perfect range of options for us newbies) the tofu soup was surprisingly incredible (very spicy just how we like!) the prime galbi is awesome, so was the chicken. Everything was great! We tried some of the sides (SO MANY) & we especially loved the sweet rice punch at the end of our meal. Awesome first experience & all the waiters were so nice & helpful. Would definitely come again!

Very impressive, from the valet parking in front, to the nifty waiting area in side with the bar to the right, and full visibility of the dining area behind the welcome desk. Here's what you notice right way: it isn't smoky. That deserves a line of it's own: It isn't smoky. For a Korean barbecue place, that's saying a great deal in three words. It only get better from there. Three cuts up from your average place like this. The beef was sweeter, the 25 side dishes more varied, and even the beer came in great-looking glasses. It's full of great-looking people and friendly waitstaff. For a treat, it's a great spot.

We arrived about 15 minutes late for our party of 7, and the place was packed. We were on our way to a show at the Saban Theater. They got us seated, in and out in record time- great service, kudos to the team there. The food was very tasty from the Kobe Prime rib steak, to the Bulgogi beef. all delicious. The Panchen assortment was amazing, about 20 different varieties of pickles and bites, all very fresh and delicious.. The Bibimbap was outstanding with a silky textures and crunchy chewy burnt rice bits. Half the dishes I could not pronounce, so I cannot really do them justice here. My only complaint is that it was pretty overpriced for what you got. However, being that its in Beverly Hills, I shouldn't say that. All in all, I would go back, it was excellent.

Okay, let me start out by saying that if you haven't had Genwa, you haven't had Korean BBQ. I stand by that until I have something better. So this is not your $16.99 AYCE vent-doesn't-work-smoke-all-up-in-your-face Korean BBQ. This is a life-changing Korean BBQ. It's so awesome that they have the employees cook the meat for you! UNHEARD OF! On top of that, they give you a million and one different side dishes. Your typical KBBQ will give you 4 or 5? Yeah. No comparison. Needless to say, the quality of their meat is absolutely top-notch. So good and so filling, that you will never even think about AYCE places again. The price is more, but you really do get what you pay for.

Just landed at LAX and I'm famished... Me: Guys, lets go get Korean BBQ! Parents: Ehhhhh We don't like Korean BBQ, last time we went it was to this seedy place on Wilshire and Western and it wasn't yummy. Me: Genwa is yummy. Plus they give you like 1000 little plates of yummyness (banchan). You'll love it. Best I've ever had. I promise. I'll pay! Parents: Okay. You pay. Me: We'll get the beef tongue, prime galbi, and the brisket. Parents: THIS IS SOOOO YUMMY. GREAT IDEA! Me: I told you. Now they go weekly...

Great place if you're looking for quality meat. Me and two of my girlfriends shared Course A and chicken bimbimbap (a must try! perfect balance of crispy rice and non-crispy) and it was so much food. The portions are generous so if you don't eat too much, I suggest splitting the courses. What I love most about this place is that they pretty much come by to grill, cut up the pieces of meat for you, and serve you. You can also opt out for cooking yourself but when you're going with a bunch of girlfriends like i did and don't know how to tell when meat is cooked, this is the place to go. PLUS unlike other kbbq places, I never come out smelling like meat. It's great. Only complaint is the service once you're done eating is horrible. We pretty much sat at our table an extra 40 min with all of our dirty dishes in front of us - waiter no where to be found. They kind of forget about you once all your dishes are out.

If my review was based solely on atmosphere and service, I would have easily given Genwa a 4 or 5 star rating. It had a very classy vibe to it, and is definitely the nicest Korean BBQ spot I have ever been to. I never thought it was even possible to not stink after eating K-BBQ, but this place proved me wrong. Apparently they have some sort of fancy air ventilation system built right into the tables, so the smoke/smell never made it to our clothes or hair. We actually smelled the same coming as we did going, which was unprecedented for a K-BBQ restaurant. Our server, Jessica, was 5 stars on her own, and provided excellent service the entire evening. She literally cooked our food for us the whole night, which was another K-BBQ first for me. All the other servers seemed great too, with a couple of them checking in on us occasionally as well. The only negative was the lady who walked us to our table. She did not say one word to us and made us feel like we were walking entirely too slow. She would do a quick little power walk, stop, turn, and then give us a stink eye until we caught up. Like an angry tango dancer who lost her dance partner, she repeated this combo until we "finally" reached our table. I am not sure if she was a hostess, or the manager (she was wearing a dress, and was the only one not dressed in all black), but she was a rather unpleasant lady. As much as I wanted to love this place for the servers, and lack of smelliness, the food just did not do it for me. It wasn't bad food, but for the money, it just didn't seem worth it. If I am going to spend $27.00 on a small plate of Bulgogi, as opposed to $20.00 for ten plates (AYCE), I expect it to taste amazing. For me, it was just okay, and not even top five taste-wise. Overall, because of the great service, and unique (at least as far as KBBQ places go) vibe, I could still recommend them for a special occasion. I do not regret coming in, but with so many other options available, I just do not see myself returning. If you haven't been, it is worth giving them a try. The food just did not appeal to my personal taste buds, but might for yours.

Best Korean restaurant this side of town. The beef and seafood dishes were well seasoned and prepared. Variety of ban chans - perfect accompaniments. Can't wait to return.

Pretty fast seating of 15 minutes compared to the 1.5 hours of the Wilshire branch. Exquisite attention from the waiters, and the food is out of this world. And this branch is right down the street!

Can't love this restaurant more. They offered so many different kinds of small dishes so that we could try any of it. The beef they provided were so much better than what I had though. The meats were so juicy and high quality. The lettuce was fresh enough to to let us eat it up. Moreover, the indoor environment was comfortable and pleasant. There was no any lamp black indoors, because the restaurant provided the well hood to dram the smoke out. Honestly, for my personal, I considered this restaurant as the top one BBQ in the United States. What was more, there was a one thing I must say. When the waitress asked me what did I want to drink, I told her I'd like to have a cup of hot water. When she gave me the hot water, I was totally surprised and shocked. Because there were some rice crackers inside the hot water. Be honest, this was my first time having this kind of water when I asked for it in restaurants. I felt grateful. Besides, I also loved their steam eggs; they were tasted so soft. Above all, tonight's dinner was a wonderful experience. I can tell that I will definitely come back and indulge in it again and again

A kbbq place that wasn't ayce? I would never venture here if it weren't for my friend's birthday. Overall, I absolutely loved Genwa and would highly recommend it to those who love kbbq and are willing to pay a pretty penny for quality meat. I am usually always about ayce since I love a good deal and maximizing my meal. Genwa is purely a la carte, and you're looking into the $30-$60 an item range. I would say the best option is to go for the dinner sets on the first page of the menu as it gives you a wide range of meats and other items. The one thing that is ayce is the famous korean side dishes (I don't remember the formal name, but they will give you as many side dishes as you want to supplement your meal). The meat is very fresh and high quality. I could totally tell the quality of the meat was next level and enjoyed every bite of it. I was basically as full as I would be at ayce kbbq because I ate so many side dishes. One thing that blew me away was the service! Since we were a large party, we were able to get the private dining room where we had two servers (I'm blanking on their name but I want to say Jae and Sandy). They were absolutely amazing, very attentive, and very quick! I had brought in a surprise cake for my friend, and they were so nice to help me get that organized and surprise my friend. This place is valet parking only! I tried to do some research on free street parking but couldn't find anything. Also it was pouring cats and dogs on the day I went so parking a couple blocks away and walking in the rain really wasn't an option. Also if you have a chance to take a look around this La Cienega location is in close proximity to many other fine dining and upscale restaurants!

Premium Korean BBQ at a price. I came here two weekends ago on a Friday night with a group of about six or seven. The key here compared to the original location is that you can make a reservation here and the other place you can't. Even on a Friday night, it wasn't super busy. I think we probably would've been okay without a reservation. To be completely honest I don't remember all the meats we got. I think for our size group we got two combo sets, which included some alcohol. The key here isn't necessarily in the meat - which, by all measures is quite good - but rather the banchan side dishes. You get so many! You could even get full on just the banchan alone. Imagine all the different banchan that you get at usual Korean restaurants and multiply it by a few. Steamed egg, seasoned lotus root, braised potato, fish cakes, boiled green veggies, some sort of braised beef, several kinds of pickled daikon and kimchi, just to name a few. This is where Genwa shines. If you're into banchan you should definitely check this place out. We also started off with a sweet pumpkin soup and ended with some complimentary candy and sweet rice dessert. They were all pretty light and a good accompaniment to meat heavy and flavor heavy courses. Service: this was problematic. They weren't super busy but it took us forever to get service. We waited a long time for refills on banchan and were told that they ran out of the actual dishes to put the food in. Despite this, there wasn't an effort to clear our empty banchan dishes. We actually had to get the manager involved in order to get more banchan. It was pretty frustrating. Bottom line: banchan king is probably a more appropriate name. Service can be a struggle.

Our table of 4 chose the prix fixe menu for 3 since we had been eating the rest of the day which was about $130 and included their house salad, 3 beef courses, your choice between three dishes--we chose the bibimbap-- and a bottle of soju. Their portions were generous and I think it would leave 3 people super full. The meats were very tasty and tender, though we didn't always know which ones we were eating and the servers weren't all that clear. Since they were all beef dishes,we didn't wait around for the waiters to serve us because the meat cooks very quickly and we didn't want it to overcook. Our servers were very nice, though not always the most attentive. They made our experience fun by showing us how to properly drink soju and even brought a round of shots to our table at the end of our meal. Overall, I think that a meal here is definitely worth it. With their seemingly endless variety of dishes and side dishes, I think that they have something on their menu for everyone to enjoy. They may be pricier than the typical KBBQ joint but the quality of their product definitely shows and is worth it.

Come here with a big appetite because it's a lot of food, especially if you're doing the courses. We came on a Sunday at noon and were the first ones there. Score! Didn't have to valet our car because we found a street parking spot on Orange Dr (on the side of the restaurant). Double score! We ordered the course for two, which was $60. It came with A LOT of banchan (side dishes), like at least 25 different ones. Definitely the most I've ever received at a KBBQ restaurant! Even though the menu states that it serves two, I think it can feed three. It comes with rice, salad, two meats, banchan, tea, soup, noodles and eggs. We ordered bulgogi and kalbi as our meats, which they cooked for us. Everything was delicious! Service was top-notch also. I don't know if it's because we were the only diners in the restaurant, but our server was quick, nice and even complimented my eye shadow! :D Also, this is the only KBBQ place where we got my favorite kind of lollipop in the end with the check! Our server also put down a small dish with two white pellets on it. I was about to take one and put it in my mouth because I thought they were mints or candy, but then she proceeded to pour hot water on them, which magically made them expand vertically (think snakes fireworks)! Good thing I didn't eat one! They turned out to be wet napkins/towels lol. Overall, would definitely recommend going here!

Normally Genwa is known for their service, but we came at lunch when they were short staffed. The wait for the service, the food was long, but the server made up for it by giving us ice cream :] I love all their side dishes--there's over 15! The meat is tasty, and we got the spicy calamari lunch special which was fine--I've tasted it better else where, but Genwa is great for their service and their side dishes. :D

i'm not one to write yelp reviews, but my experience at genwa was surprisingly disappointing that i'd feel the need to share it. specifically one rude young waiter, who greeted me--seemed like he did not want to be there. thought i'd see the end of him after he greeted me, but as genwa is a high-end kbbq place, he kept coming back to help us cook our briskets, trying to be attentive (i understand), but it just killed my mood and overall experience. i couldn't even carry out a conversation with my friend cause he kept coming back. it was not only his somber and bored expressions, but his snarky remarks. i wanted him to clarify that the side dishes were unlimited. to which he replied with a grimace on his face 'well its not unlimited.. but complimentary'. (fine, my mistake for using the wrong word). his response hinted that he was looking down at me--"typical peasant, can't afford side dishes' our bibimbap came out last, which is understandable because it takes awhile to be cooked. once its presented, our waiter just left it there--assuming that we know that he will be getting us bowls. i then asked him to provide us with some politely. he then had the audacity to reply that he was waiting for the rice to crisps with a piercing attitude. (why wasn't this told earlier, assuming that we understood). i tipped the standard amount, but my wallet ached as my hard-earned money was wasted on such a rude, mean, inconsiderate waiter. you won't see me coming back again. i swear of it.

**TOP-NOTCH KBBQ IN BEVERLY HILLS** I made same-day reservations which was pretty awesome. PARKING ======= Street or valet. AMBIANCE ========= Fanciest and cleanest KBBQ joint I've been to. Spacious lay out. FOOD ===== BANCHAN Super fresh and high quality. Liked the potato salad the best. RATING: 5/5 PRIME GALBI Prime short ribs marinated in house special sauce tasted like heaven. Melted in my mouth goodness. Tender and wonderful. My absolute favorite. RATING: 5/5 BULGOGI Thinly sliced prime beef marinated in house special sauce was solid. I've had better, but the meat was nicely flavored and went well with our brown rice. RATING: 4/5 SPICY BULGOGI CHICKEN Boneless chicken marinated w/spicy house sauce (cooked in the kitchen) was my least favorite. Nothing exciting here since it was pre-cooked. Good advice is to reheat them on the grill for a crispier texture. RATING: 3/5 SPICY SAM GYUP SAL Thinly sliced prime pork belly, marinated in spicy Korean miso (cooked in the kitchen) was my second favorite meat. Although it was already pre-cooked, the flavor was intense and wonderful. RATING: 4/5 BEEF MANDU Fried beef dumplings were delicious, hot and fresh from the fryer. RATING: 4/5 PA JYUN Assorted seafood and vegetable pancake (Choice of Vegetarian or Kimchee) was also on-point. Nice crunchy texture (even though the pancake was a wee bit thick). RATING: 4/5 BEVERAGE ========== PEAR ME UP Soju, pear juice & club soda was not bad. Definite creeper. RATING: 4/5 SERVICE ======= Friendly and quick. RATING: 5/5 OVERALL ======== Glad I have a legit KBBQ in my hood. Given the fancy ambiance, the quality of food, and the lovely service, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for groups, business, etc. seeking KBBQ.

As an LA native and someone that has eaten Korean food for a long time, I was hesitant in trying Genwa. I am not a huge fan of westernized Asian cuisine and I like to go to K-town and get the authentic food from the feisty waitresses. I don't go to all you can eat bbq, so I can't say that's better, but for those complaining about Genwa solely based on AYCE, please stop. I don't know why it's so popular (besides the obvious), but you can't make negative comments on pricing or portions when all you have experienced is AYCE. That's not authentic nor is it especially Korean. That being said, Genwa was wonderful. The banchan was awesome as stated numerous times and like all Korean restaurants, you can continually ask for more of your favorites. We ordered the special "A" for 2 people and it was great with enormous portions (we took home a lot of leftovers). We started with fresh green salad, glass noodles, some sort of egg custard and a hot tofu soup which was delicious. We had the prime Galbi and it was melt in your mouth delicious. It also came with a huge portion of Bulgogi, which is thin sliced ribeye or sirloin. I tend to only order Galbi, but this was also super tender and really tasty. The service was also really great and I really appreciated that as if you tend to eat in K-town like I do, you are used to subpar service but the food and experience always makes up for it. The waitresses were really pleasant and super helpful. Other reviewers have been complaining about the pricing, but again if you are only used to AYCE, it's of course a lot more money, but in general it's the same pricing as other higher end bbq places. I go to Park's Chosun and Baekjung a lot and they are all similarly priced. If you are eating Prime rated meats, you get what you pay for. It's great to know that the westside has a wonderful Korean restaurant with authentic cuisine and great service! I will definitely be coming back.

Amazing first time here with my family. The food for one thing is top quality. The meat is marbled, just enough fat with no need for marinade! Delicious banchan with over 20 choices, very different from your average Korean bbq restaurant. The service is also top quality. All servers come by with a smile . Definitely coming back and bringing more with me!

Excellent describes four aspects of our dining experience: 1) Quality of Meat: We devoured our two orders of galbi, one spicy pork belly, and one chicken bulgogi. All were tender and not too fatty. 2) Taste: They were all on-point with taste! 3) Customer service: The waitress actually cooks and cuts the meat for you! That's a first that I've seen at any KBBQ place. But then again, I'm from SF where there is a huge lack of good KBBQ places. 4) Cleanliness: All KBBQ places I've been to have me coming out of there smelling like I was put in a wooden oven! Genwa must have excellent air circulation or something because we all smelled the way we did when we came in!

This is the most expensive Korean place I have ever been to: $32 for a regular sized plate of bulgogi, 5.50 valet parking, and $16 soon tofu soup. Service was great but you can get cheaper and better Korean BBQ in LA Korean town, in Seattle or in Korea. It's another overhyped overpriced average restaurant you should avoid in LA.

Wear your fanciest stretch pants to this establishment, because you will inevitably be stuffed when you exit. The interior is luxuriously decorated and the waitstaff is attentive, and everything from the service to the food quality is DIVINE. The meat and bonchon are authentic and high quality. Heck, some may argue it's even better than in Korea, and you really can't be disappointed since they have so many meal and side options. Favorites include bi bim bap, japchae, and kimchee jigae. Take note that you should expect to pay at least $60 (a meal for 2) and upwards, minus the cost of beverages, but you will be filled to the brim and possibly take home a doggy bag. Keep in mind there's valet parking in front.

Came here with Angela D. and my Wife Teresa K. Angela likes this spot, so do I. They do a great job, and the meals for a group are fun and entertaining. Probably one of the most expensive kbbq i ever had. I still debate if it was worth it but the customer service probably made up for alot of it cause it was really great! Experience wise: excellent! Beginning you get like 20 side dishes i didnt really count but lets just say A hell lot of them are brought out to you to eat while you wait for your meat to cook! You get a choice of white or purple rice or brown rice i forgot what they call it there. Meat quality was awesome as well you definitely are paying for the high quality meat and high end customer service they give. birthdays or nice date, this is a great place to come

This has to be one of the top Korean meals that I have ever had. We went at 6pm without having to wait in line. By 6:30 the line started to get long so plan accordingly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff were very attentive. We ordered the set of three and there were plenty of food for three of us. We are not drinkers so we substituted the sake with jap chai. No extra charge. I particularly like the Kalbi. It's so buttery and it just melted in my mouth. This restaurant easily beat 90% of Korean restaurant you can find in Manhattan. Valet parking is available at 5.50 at the door. I will give them a 6 star if Yelp allows.

One of the best KBBQ spots in LA. It's upscale, you don't smell after, and reasonably priced. It's a shame that it isn't all you can eat. Go with combo A for two people. For $60 with kalbi and bulgogi and all that pan chan, you will leave stuffed out of your mind. Dessert includes a sweet rice drink as lollipops. I love the ventilation system where it sucks the smoke out as it forms. Service is great. I just wish the wait were shorter!

The food here is very high quality Korean food. Everything tastes fresh and is delishus. We ordered the yukgaejang and haemulpajun. That along with 25 side dishes equals a full satisfied belly. It's my 3rd time here and the experience was superb. Our server Dan, the Original Dan, was amazing and suggested the dishes. He made our experience. 2 thumbs up. Bon appetite!

Booked a large party about 26 people. We were seated in a private room upstairs. Service was excellent. The private area does not have its own grills so the servers bring out the food already prepped. I do prefer to cook my Korean BBQ to my taste but for a large Party the options are always a bit more limited. There was a 25% gratuity charge for the large group party which is a bit high. Overall I was very pleased with the food and service.

So, before coming here I was a little put off by what I read about the price. I typically get AYCE KBBQ for $10 and, to put it bluntly, the pricetag here just seemed a little excessive.... But it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!! The food was fantastic, the atmosphere fantastic. It was absolutely amazing. It's definitely an upscale venue, so I'd really save it for special occasions, but I definitely plan on making a return visit. Also, if you plan properly, it really doesn't have to be that expensive. For a party of 4, we ordered Combo A ($60) and an order of bi bim bap ($20). So, it came out to be only $20/person and it was more than enough food. I'd definitely recommend going that route. The banchan is always my favorite part of the meal and this place offered such an amazing variety. There were 20+ dishes! Also, there were a bunch of little free touches that really made the experience: the pumpkin porridge when we first sat down, the rice punch at the end of the meal, the warm towels that sprouted up from nothing like awesome devilmagic, the green tea ice cream they brought out for my brother's birthday, and the lollypops that came with the check. It was just an all around amazing experience. The service was absolutely FANTASTIC. Jean and Jessica were totally accommodating and friendly, and didn't make fun of us for all the stupid questions we asked about the food. Jean even took the time to explain all of the different banchan items - and there were a LOT. They cooked all our food to perfection and they refilled the banchan dishes even when we didn't ask for it! Seriously, they would overhear us commenting how much we liked a certain dish and then without even asking they would bring us some more when it was empty. It was amazing. Absolutely attentive, without being overbearing. Seriously, don't worry about the price. It's absolutely worth it. I am the most frugal person I know and yet, I regret nothing!!

The quality of meat at this location is SUPERB! The service was great too! Everything you order is cooked by your server and before they bring out the food you ordered, they bring out 20 extraordinary Korean small dishes that is also refillable! My family and I ate at this place for lunch and we were so full by the end of it! I don't think you can go wrong with anything you choose here. If you have a lot more people, I would recommend ordering one of the combos.

Four stars for food, three for atmosphere, but only two for service! Food is quite good. Meat is consistently of great quality. The banchan variety is amazing. Atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. On a good note, you won't leave smelling like bbq because the room is very airy and well ventilated. Unfortunately, the consistently poor service is the reason I will never be coming back. Though waiters are attentive at the beginning of the meal, they vanish once the food arrives. On two separate visits our waiter went MIA for thirty minutes AFTER we had finished eating. We eventually had to flag down a random server to get the check. This is inexcusable for the price of this place.

We had an absolutely amazing meal at Genwa! The ambiance was very relaxing with no music which made talking with your dinner companions much easier. The wait-staff was very attentive which was perfect since this was our first time at Genwa. Our waiter explained to us that the preset courses are a lot of food, but we still wanted to try the bulgogi so we ordered a half portion, so we also ordered course c. The three of us and we were no where near finishing all the meat. By the end of the first meat we were getting very full because you also get an abundance of delicious small side dishes and a choice of a few soups or Korean fried rice. I would confidently say that the each of the courses could feed about 2x the number that it says it serves. Our waiter was very kind and gave us complementary green tea ice cream since it was our first time. I would definitely recommend Genwa to everyone, they even have vegetarian options.

I was never really a fan of this place. I don't really even remember how the food tasted time I came but I'm glad I went again. Last night, I felt like having Gyu Kaku but they were so jam packed that I couldn't get a table . Much to my chagrin, I stepped out of Gyu and crossed the street to Genwa. Didn't really expect anything but I actually liked the food. Prime Galbi and Bulgogi were really good. Soon tofu which is a type of soup was yummy! It's amazing how many side dishes they give you. It was awesome. I was feeling adventurous so I tried a lot of them this time. Good move!!! The bibimbap is definitely different from what I'm used to at Gyu kaku but it was pretty good. The best part of our dinner last night was meeting the wonderful, cheerful and entertaining Gina. She was so nice and we got to talk to her while we ate. She is super nice and one of a kind. Having a chat with your waiter while she cooks is definitely a luxury that you can't have at other places. I will now make it a point to dine at Genwa from now on. (But only when Gina is working )

Everyone knows that banchan is an integral part of the Korean BBQ experience, and Genwa's was impressive. We had a large group of people for a birthday party, and as people rotated in an out they replaced all of the banchan on the table with a fresh set (impressive). Sure, the bbq isn't all you can eat here, but the banchan is. You don't grill here, which doesn't bother me since I don't much appreciate my hair and clothes smelling like korean bbq long after eating. Portions are large; the Spicy Bulgogi Chicken was enough to share, especially with the limitless banchan. This is definitely "high end" Korean BBQ.. it's a fancier establishment than most and thus it is a bit pricier than other Korean BBQ places, but still not expensive for the amount of food that you get.

My favorite Korean bbq place in LA. You get around 25 side dishes with the meal, and the experience is top notch. Steamed egg, salad, soup, also comes with the meal, and usually soju. The staff is very friendly, and attentive. A great experience for all experience levels. After you are done eating, you get a punch to help with digestion, and a sucker. This location has a valet, and usually no wait times. I still would recommend the original location if you don't mind the wait, it's a lot more intimate.

I'm vegan, I know better than to go out for Korean BBQ. I know better. But sometimes you have family who invite you to Korean BBQ anyway, and you just gotta grin and bear it. Thankfully, Genwa has a vegetarian menu, so at least I can order without fear of hidden fish sauce or meaty things. When I asked the waiter to help me suss out what was not vegan on the vegetarian menu, he wasn't much help. He didn't seem very familiar with the vegetarian selections (he offered no help choosing a dish, though I was clearly asking for it), and had no idea what items might or might not have egg. I played it safe and ordered the japchae, which he promised to make sure the chef knew not to include eggs just in case it was normally prepared with them. I'm glad he cared, I just would've had more confidence ordering or asking about the side dishes had he known more about what went into the food. The japchae was fine, if a bit plain. It definitely didn't have enough veggies to be a main dish, so maybe it was meant to be a shared side. I'm not gonna lie, I'll probably pass the next time friends or family want to meet for Korean BBQ. While I don't take offense to people cooking meat in front of me, it certainly does nothing for my appetite and I had a hard time enjoying my food. Oh well, the more you know! For my meat-eating friends: my family loved it, they thought it was great, and you should totally go and check it out for yourself. Just be kind and don't invite me!

We were able to get in for an early dinner before this gem. It filled up very quickly soon after we were seated at about 5:30 in the afternoon. Soon after we sat down, Our waiter brought us a literal buffet of 26 different small dishes (banchan): kim chees, vegetables, etc etc etc... The marinated beef was very very good, as was service. I have come back more than once! A gem in the neighborhood.

This was the best & most enjoyable meal I have had in months!!! We had House Salad, Soon Tofu, Rice, Japchae, Prime Galbi, Bulgogi & all the side banchan dishes was just a delicious assortment of contrasting flavors. The meat was super!! The impeccable service with very articulate suggestions and explanations of all the dishes and the restaurant is absolutely first class!

This place is consistently good and the staff is very friendly. Best Korean bbq in town. Bimbimbap and bulgogi are amazing.

Took my folks out for high end Korean BBQ and we weren't disappointed. The meal started off with the 20 banchan. I loved the variety, which ensure that everyone would find something they liked. Each little side was solid though I would go for 10 stellar ban chan over 20 solid ones, just a thought. We also had the sizzling bibimbap that offered a blend of crisp rice and subtle nuttiness from the sesame oil. The seafood pancake also offered a great contrast in textures between the crisp outside and hearty inside. We also got soondobu that stands up to many of the tofu houses I've been to. Finally, the meat. The Kat sol and galbi were spectacular - tender and flavorful. This is where you see the separation between Ye high end places and acye. The Cha dol and pork belly were good but only marginally so. Service was top much - best I've seen at a Korean BBQ place. Will be back for sure.

Worth every penny! Prime cuts of meat, generous, flavorful sides and a cheery, helpful wait staff. I was in Korean BBQ heaven...and their sake, soju and plum wine selection was on point. Love my old school K-town spots, but this place is a breathe of fresh air -- literally.

It's safe to say LA Yelpers who know better have been spoiled by AYCE KBBQ. Genwa, however, is not an AYCE place and is one of the pricier places for Korean BBQ, though has much more high quality meats. They have 2 locations in LA -- one on mid-Wilshire on the outskirts of Koreatown, the other in Beverly Hills, which is this location. The menu gives several different options, with different meat selections and options. The 5 of us (3 girls, 2 guys) got 2 orders of Course A, which came with salad, individual Soon Tofu, Rice, bean sprouts salad, marinated short ribs, bulgolgi (marinated beef), and cha dol (thin brisket). Although the menu says it feeds 2, we figured with 3 girls it would be enough, and the amount was fine for an ok dinner. The quality was excellent of course, the best being the short ribs. Service was great, they were attentive and would cook the food for us which is something that is sorely lacking at most AYCE places. Their banchan or side dishes were amazing too, which was AYCE and there were about 20 of them. Our favorite sides were the potato salad and fish cakes, which we were constantly re-ordering along with a couple of others dishes. So though the quality of the food was very good, it was just overshadowed by the fact that we all love AYCE kbbq and felt we were restricted by the quantity. We came here because one of the people in our party of 10 who sat at the adjacent burner felt that we would pay about the same amount as an AYCE, but really, you don't. Not even. But you are paying for excellent service and high quality of the food, but one of my favorite things about the whole KBBQ experience is getting to order and cook things you wouldn't normally order. And the gluttony. The fabulous, decadent gluttony! So because of my personal feelings, I have to give it 3 stars because I'm pretty spoiled by AYCE. Parking is $5.50 even with validation so park in the streets if you can!

Great veg options. Very attentive service. Parking valet only, which is a little annoying. But food is well worth it! We keep coming back! And they are very accommodating if we bring our little one, totals plus!

Genwa overpriced KBBQ for rich white people, and doesn't deserve its trending reputation. They messed up our extraordinarily large group's reservation, but that's not why I give it 3 stars (actually this scored us a bunch of free drinks while we waited to be seated). The prices just don't justify the food. You can tell the meat is of good quality, but they don't know how to marinade it. Most of the meat choices lacked flavor and savor. First time I've ever had KBBQ and not felt absolutely satisfied by it. We ordered a couple seafood options as well, but they must be rather forgettable as I can't even remember what they were. Plus they cooked the food for us. Incredibly awkward. I don't want some dude standing there while I make fart jokes. Oh wait. Scallops. And maybe shrimp? Ah....yeah that seafood was definitely forgettable. With the free drinks they comped us, still came to about $65/person w/ tax and tip. Just...no. You can get better, more authentic, more flavorful kbbq in way too many places in Ktown for a fraction of the price. In conclusion, come here if you're pretentious.

This is a fancy K bbq place in Beverly Hills. I prefer this place over the one in mid wilshire. It's fancier, bigger and the service is nicer. Their Cha Dol and Prime Galbi are really nice. I love their soybean paste soup as well. One time we ordered these items from a set menu and another time a la carte. The waiter explained that when ordering from a la carte the meat portion is twice as much as from the set menu. If you want more meat, then order from a la carte!

I frequent AYCE KBBQ, so, when my friend suggested this trendy upscale restaurant for dinner, I was definitely expecting not to enjoy it. Pay more money for smaller amounts of meat?! Who does that?! We ordered from one of their preset courses. I believe it was "D". Each course comes with their 100 sides, salad, choice of bibimbap or soup, and a bottle of soju. I've had bibimbap before and wasn't much of a fan. But their bibimbap was actually pretty good. Tried about half the dishes that surrounded the grill and thought all were tasty. We definitely had to get "refills" of some of them. I can't remember the types of meat we were served, but it was all very good. The meat came out full of flavor and surprisingly very tender. Overall, the experience and food was good all around. I had to give them one less star only because there were times throughout dinner where I wanted to start cooking the meat myself since I'm pretty impatient, but felt like I shouldn't have because one of the servers would rush over and handle the meat for me as soon as they saw me put meat on the grill. I also didn't leave feeling full, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Came here for the first time last nite. Been meaning to check it out since I had also been to the other orig location. This one is bigger, nice, and has valet. Food and menu is the same and yummy! We got the $60 set for two tho it really can feed 3; it's a lot of food! Love the chap jae, soon tofu, egg dish, cha dol, kalbi, salad, and tiny side dishes. There is an upstairs private section. They cook the meat for you. It is dimly lit, but a little loud and not romantic or formal as I thought it would be. I would definitely come here again. Valet is $5.50.

The restaurant has a nice interior design and the private rooms are great for parties. I went to celebrate a good friend's birthday party and reserved two rooms that has an operable partition (foldable wall) that combines the two rooms to one. We had a party of 24 and the bill came out to be reasonable. Keep in mind: it's not cheap. I believe in getting what you pay for and you pay for the great service, the mood, and the ambiance. The food was okay. The party was great.

Excellent service, fresh and high quality meat and banchan. They took a great care of our toddler, by bringing his own baby plate, baby chopsticks, rice, soup and seaweed leaves so we can wrap the rice for no extra charge. Very attentive staff and quiet( tuesday night) ambiance. We wil definitely be back! Oh and the complimentary pumpkin porridge was delicious!

  • Sandy W.

Classy, upscale restaurant with spa-like decor. They give you thirty different kinds of banchan and complimentary roasted barley tea. I came here for lunch, and there were so many options with different selections of meat, spice factor, and vegetable combinations. My party ordered a bulgogi lunch special, spicy chicken bibimbap, and jigae soon tofu to share family style. The server was fun (with a side ponytail!) and kept up with our many requests so politely--this place is totally worth it!

  • Sean S.

Not your typical LA Korean BBQ. It is NOT AYCE and a little more upscale than most. I go back and forth if it's worth it to pay the extra for the ambiance/sides/"little" higher quality meat. I am still definetly a fan but if you don't need the ambiance, you are in quite the predicament as am I. Either way, if you come here... You will not be disappointed. Make sure to call for RESERVATIONS. It will get packed and there bar area is a little small.

  • Sabrina M.

Very Tasty! The meat portion is not as large as most small Korean BBQ but the quality is better. There is a large array of sides including soup and salad. The service is fantastic and the hostess was amazing. I called 10 min before I arrived and she took my name explaining there might be a wait. Once I arrived she went to clean a table so we could be seated asap. She was very nice and professional.

Excellent customer service! The waiters were very knowledgable about the menu and were always happy to attend to us and answer any questions. Delicious food! We had the rib eye steak which just melted in our mouths, spicy calamari and a chicken and another meat dish. All beat our expectations!

I initially made a yelp account to just look up new restaurants. Never did I think that I will ever write a review... However, my first review goes to Genwa!! That's how great it was. Shortly after being seated, our server warmly welcomed us and promptly brought out our drink orders. There was one person in my party with a gluten problem so our server went over the whole menu and recommended the perfect dishes for us. We went in on a busy Saturday night and the restaurant was packed, but the waitress still took her time to explain all the little side dishes and even made a separate section just for the gluten free ones. Throughout our whole meal, she cooked for us, promptly refilled our empty side dishes, and our water cups were never left to be empty! Service was just phenomenal. I forgot to get her name, but our server was the best!! I just wanted to put her in my pocket and take her home with me.. I swear I could still hear her giggle right now LOL. She was like the cutest, tiniest, and sweetest bunny hopping/running around the huge restaurant to make all her customers happy. Amazing amazing amazing is all I can say. Definitely will be back.

When Woo Lae Oak closed, I didn't think any other Korean barbecue could replace them. Genwa in BH comes very close. Excellent meat and attentive service. The only thing they don't have that I miss is the spicy raw crab...

I came here with some coworkers several times. One time we ordered bbq beef. Another time we ordered ddukboki. There was also so much banchan, the most I had ever seen in my entire life. It was delicious! The staff is also some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered. They always made sure we had nothing lacking. Sometimes there were 3 wait people at our table at once, serving us. On top of all this great service, the wait staff is some of the best looking wait staff I have ever seen. In my experience, when the wait staff is attractive, they tend to be snooty and don't want to be bothered. The contrary was true here. They never acted like we were bothering. They responded as if we were doing them a favor!

If you're a manager of Genwa, read the bottom. Otherwise, I have to say this is a great restaurant I only wish we had up in San Francisco. #1. I think this is mostly a better location to go to than the Wilshire location. The food is the same, and the place is bigger. Because the location is around a lot of other trendy big restaurants/hotels, street parking will take a few more minutes compared to Wilshire. If you want valet, it's $5.50 or so. Because of its trendy location, this is a good place to take friends to try Korean food for the first time. #2. For prime grade beef (and it tasted like prime), I found myself thinking they should be charging more. I really bit my tongue to never say that out loud. Oh shoot--does Yelp count? This restaurant KNOWS how to create value and abundance in a smart way. For two of us, Dinner A was $55. Does that sound like a lot? Cause after 32 lbs of meat, vegetables, rice, noodles, stews, desserts, lollipops, and magic washcloths comes traipsing to your table, I ended up feeling delighted. If you're on a diet, this is the one meal that's worth indulging on. And plus, it's not like eating fatty french food--tons of vegetables, grilled proteins. It IS a bit salty so you may feel swollen the next day, but it'll "pass" with lots of water. #3. Service--they hustle here. The trendy waiters run around and sweat, and make sure you get any one of those 25 panchan dishes refilled. #4. Speaking of panchan--those little accompaniment dishes--while i thought the turnip kimchee was a bit soggy for my taste... the cabbage kimchee was excellent. Potato salad with bits of apple--I will protest if they ever stop selling this. Overall--it's a great array of generally high quality panchan. #5. Ventilation system is pretty darn good. I did not leave as smoky as I normally do. Those little things matter for people who eat a lot of Korean BBQ. My ONLY two down comments... 1. salad was a bit rubbery. and 2. unfortunately, I did see one young trendy waiter in the restroom leave (from the stall) without washing his hands. Maybe he was just having a zen moment? but I would have been a lot happier if I saw him wait behind me, even to just rinse his hands. Genwa--feel free to message me if you need a date/time to cross check against your security cam facing the restroom. Or just remind your awesome staff please.

I've surveyed the deeply charred landscape of Korea town dozens of times over the years, and I think Genwa may be ''the one" for best meat in town. Quality was excellent, but they also have 5+ unique cuts each with different levels of flavor and sauce, so great diversity. You pay for it, as the ambiance 2nd only to Chosun Galbi for most high-end/white-friendly, but definitely worth going. They are also known for their banchan, and do have the widest assortment I've ever seen. However, in this case less is more as none of them were great so can't say banchan was a highlight over other Korean peers. I would have to say over Park's, Chosun, Soo Won, others, this is my new #1 for BBQ.

It was Saturday night, and Jae M. and I tried to get a table at the original Wilshire location, and it was an over 2 hour wait. We decided to try our luck at this new Beverly Hills location, and we were seated right away. In addition, the restaurant is much more spacious and has a better ambiance. The food and service were AMAZING. I love the little dishes that they serve at Korean restaurants, and Genwa has the biggest selection of them I have ever seen. They also give soup, salad, and an egg dish that are excellent!! My favorite freebie of the night was this "pumpkin custard" that was like a creamy, mochi-like consistency. I asked for seconds and almost asked for thirds but I was sooooo full. For main dishes, we got spicy chicken and the seafood pancake. The portions here are enormous. Especially after all the appetizers we had, we barely made a dent in these dishes. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The seafood pancake was perfectly cooked and was full of a variety of seafood...it had too much onion for my liking so I'll definitely ask to have that removed next time. Finally, we got a complimentary dessert (cold red bean soup) and a lollipop with the bill. The service throughout the whole meal was very attentive. I will definitely come back here again!!!

The truth is that you can find Korean BBQ for a lot cheaper elsewhere. These types of places cater to a certain clientele, the ones that don't mind paying an arm and a leg for convenience and service. Remember, you're amongst high society and are essentially paying for their luxury tax. In comparison to the original Genwa location on Wilshire Blvd, this high end (non-AYCE) Korean BBQ restaurant serves above average quality meat and an ensemble of Korean dishes. They still promote the 20 or more ban chans (side dishes) that change from week to week. During previous visits, I often come across a ban chan that I haven't seen since childhood, which makes me reminiscence. Even though the grill is rectangular (not circular), the smoke is still captured by tiny holes under the burner that sucks in the fumes, instead of it hovering around your table and on your clothes. Notice, that there are no fans that hang from the ceiling, creating less noise and more space. FOOD I tend to not order their combos, unless I'm dining with a large party. I'm not a fan of AYCE, so I usually order a serving or two of meat (PRIME GALBI, KOBE RIBEYE, KOT SAL, DEUNG SHIM, CHA DOL), followed by an entree or soup. Here are some items (GALBI JIM, BIBIM-BAP, YOOK GAE JANG, GALBI TANG) that I recommend. SERVICE I noticed servers that moved from the OG location to this one. Ben and Isiah are two of the waiters that help me the most. They're attentive and easy going. I don't ever feel the need to be hesitant when it comes to asking for something. In turn, I offer them soju shots as an ice breaker. LOCATION The venue is quite large and they chose to stay with a dark brown wood trim for their decor. They have a small bar in the front that serves beer and wine, with cocktail creations that I believe are made with soju. I'm almost sure they chose not to get a full liquor license, similar to that of the Mid-Wilshire location. They have a second floor that accommodates a larger party, complete with a small sound system for those that want to get their karaoke on. Private rooms are available on the ground floor, to the right side of the restaurant. The valet service charges $5.50 for parking and the restaurant tends to charge for the little things, like $2 for brown rice. SMH. Either way, you've made it to the big leagues my friend. You're dining in Beverly Hills, remember? :)

It's a high end kbbq so not your normal ALL YOU CAN EAT. knowing the price, of course we had really high expectations. The first serve we had was nice at First but right after we placed our order she all the sudden changed...! Home girl got all attitudey. Not sure what got to her or maybe we didn't order up to her expectation...?? I don't understand what her deal was but...not cool. So I went and ask for a manager, Ben, he was nice about the situation and immediately change our server as I requested because I don't need someone with attitude issue to serve me my food when we're paying $50 each amongst the 4 of us. Renee was our 2nd server and she was wonderful! I wouldn't have given a 4 if it weren't for her and Ben's hospitality. They handle the issue well and I appreciate their effort to make things right. Ben even got us shots after our meal. That was a nice touch of the dinner. Now, the food. The quality of the meat is definitely top of the line for Korean BBQ. The meat was fresh and tasty. There were more than necessary little bowls of condiments/side dishes. We ordered more than enough but it was $50 well spent So over all, minus 1 star for the first server that wasn't nice enough for my $50 meal. Oh and the valet fee was $5.50, I thought that was somewhat of an odd number. Thanks again Ben & Renee!!

BEST. KOREAN. BBQ. EVER. Love the decor and atmosphere at this location! But the best thing about it is probably that there's NO WAIT!! 3 of us got the combo thing for 4 people and it was the perfect amount of food! The meat was soooo flavorful. There were so many sides and they were all delicious! Really liked the seaweed sides and pancake wrap things. Excellent service!!! Our server even gave us lollipops when we left :)

So my boyfriend and I LOVE KBBQ! We have been EVERYWHERE and Genwa is just as good! We love coming here! The food is so yummy (get the bulgogi), the insane amount of little sides, and the great selection of drinks! BUT!!! To be honest the best part of all was our server JESSICA! And only refuting to her as a server is unfair, she is a grill master! Ask for her, we can't wait to!

  • Jessica A.

Your mouth will thank you after coming here; the next day, you should go to the gym. Probably a good date spot since it is pretty interactive and different. Nice, but also not too expensive. So much food! So many sides! About $30 per person and you'll be so satisfied you wont want to eat breakfast the next day. Also, the food is delicious! The restaurant is huge (and it's their second location) so we got seated right away on a Saturday night. The burner blows the smoke down so you actually don't smell like a Korean BBQ mess when you leave, unlike other places. They offer a few options for groups...those are definitely good deals. Service was great. All of the servers seem to help each other out too which is nice. Valet parking. Definitely try this place out if you live in the area.

  • Seung Koo L.

The food was excellent with lots of various types of side dishes. HOWEVER, this guy burnt up all of my Galbi from the combo A. The service was good but I felt like I was eating crackers. The meat was just BURNT UP. By the Way. The manager is a woman who drags her slippers around the floor and brings us to a table. She did not dress up like an actual manager. Seriously. She is not even friendly and drags her flip flops on the ground, when she walks us to a table. Manager! Get noticed! Waitress and waiters are so formal and friendly but YOU are the one who's making the restraunt so cheap!

    (3)
  • Justin B.

Like most people, I really like their side dishes. Variety and tasty. You can feel it is a bit expensive for Korean BBQ but I think it's not for what they offer for sides and quality of meats. But I took off one star because of the service. Service is not bad but compared to other neighbor restaurants in Beverly Hills, their service should be more professional.

My family and I have been going to the original location and absolutely love it there. Have always thought the food and customer service was excellent. We were so excited they opened this new location closer to where we live but were very disappointed by the food and service. Our waiter literally checked on us twice and it took a good 15-20 min just to get something we asked for. The food was subpar at best which is disappointing considering the price you're paying. The Kalbi tang and steamed egg lacked flavor and meat was a bit tough. They need to get this location up to the standard of the original one before I'll go back again.

I used to come to this location when it was woo lae oak. of course, wlo died due to so-so food and super high prices, so I was curious to try the genwa that took its place. not too shabby: decent service, nice space, good food, close to my house. the one main complaint I have is they are using the same old crappy table top grills as wlo did (I guess they didn't want to pony up for new ones). these grills are really not good. they don't cook well, and they usually end up burning your meat. my suggestion would be to just have the kitchen cook it for you. if you are hell bent on a table top grilling experience, go elsewhere. otherwise, I'd go there again.

Yay! I feel happy just thinking about Genwa. After being told their Wilshire location was an hour wait, the hostess called this location and let us know there was no wait (props to Wilshire hostess on Thursday night!). This new location has parking and is really pretty inside. The service is amazing. The hostess checked on us a few times and our waiter was the best. He really gave us a lesson on korean food, which my in-laws who were in town from Kansas enjoyed. The food is incredible and the fact they give you like 20+ banchan is amazing. The food just keeps coming and coming and it is well worth what you pay and then some. We will be going back as often as possible.

Very nice ambience. Our water was very handsome. The amount of food apportioned per person is way too much to be healthy. So if you're 4 people, get the 3 person meal. That should be more than sufficient. P.S. the non-marinated meats and seafoods tasted a lot more delicious than the ones that were marinated (in my opinion.) Also if you don't want sake in the giant combo meal you can replace that with soon tofu or japchae. Also, if you ask for hot water, they give you barley hot water, which is very good.

$25 haemool pahjun never tasted sooooo good. Its thick!! I love the endless banchan portions and let me be frank, they give you at least 25 different types. I was so full by the end of the BBQ session! I had to ask if any more meat was coming out bc I dislike wasting food and I wouldn't be able to finish if more popped out. Trust me they aren't going to skimp you on your order. Staff is extremely helpful. They cook and cut your meats. I even caught one plating, amazing... they pay attention to you. This place is a go to for authentic Korean food.

I was referred by a friend at work and had lunch there today. I have never had authentic Korean food before and was looking forward to it. Prompt, attentive and friendly service and the food was absolutely delicious. I ate every one of the banchan dishes served first and they were all incredible. The main course - I ate every morsel of tender and tasty beef with lovely dipping sauces. I will be back and I will tell my friends!!

Had a lovely dinner here with a party of 10 tonight. 1. No wait. Had a reservation at 7 and the restaurant wasn't half full. It's nice to not have to wait. 2. Servers are nice--but they did leave us unattended for about 20 minutes after taking our drink orders in our private room--we were only waiting for 1 person but we had been ready to order right from the beginning. That was the time I wish they had a call button on the table like the other korean bbq places. I had to get out of my seat to flag down a server. I expected better. At least walk by and check on us to see how we were doing. They just seem to have forgotten that we're there. half star dinged off. 3. Food was delicious. We ordered 2 of the Course F $165 good for 8-10 people and some bibimbap. All the meat had great marbling, and was fresh and yummy. Higher quality meat than the regular AYCE places, as expected. The banchan was delicious too. 20 of them in 3 sets for our long table. Good. 4. When it came to meat cooking, we put on the second round of the fatty prime rib on the grill, and it started smoking a little bit. The server came by and I know he meant well and tried to help--he wanted to change the grill for us halfway through the meat cooking process. The meat on it was literally 30 seconds to perfection, and he should have let us finish, and waited, or at least ask if it's ok to change the grill at that point. We were disappointed he did change the grille anyway without asking--which means the almost perfect meat was transferred to a cold grill that is not at the right temperature. let sit for way too long there before the temperature was being brought back up to sizzling hot again. For a good cut of meat, this really made for sub-par quality final product. Yes, I understand he just really wanted to be nice, but I wish he had been trained on meat cooking temperature and understand the customers' focus on the food better. That's where I knocked off another half star. 5. All in all, the food was really delicious, the service was good. The price is what you expect in that fancy Beverly Hills / Cedar Sinai neighborhood with fancier decor. I think it's fair that's how much they charge. It is a little expensive for what the food is, so I may come back when I feel like I want fancier korean bbq. In the mean time, i'll go back to my regular AYCE korean bbq for regular days. It is a lot more economical. 6. Valet parking = $5.50

Simply the Best Korean BBQ in L.A. !!

So I have pretty much tried them all, and this place is hands down the best place for Korean BBQ in LA! From the service, the drinks and the panchan ( Korean small side dishes- they give you a ton by the way ) and the meat- don't get me started on the meats! I am the biggest carnivore I know and this place truly satisfies! From Galbi , to pork belly to the succulent steak options this place truly delivers on quality over quantity. Those $15 all you can eat spots in K-town never deliver on the level of quality that Genwa does! Plus this new location is in Beverly Hills , baller!! Now throw on your dinner jacket, ladies a cocktail dress and go and have yourself a nice cultural experience at the new Genwa in Beverly Hills! You can thank me later!

So my other sister (yes, I have 2) and I went to Genwa last night for a later dinner! We always wanted to try it and decided to go on a Thursday and beat the weekend people rush. Originally, we went to their original location on Wilshire, but once we valet the car and walked into the restaurant, we were told that it was going to be an hour wait and...we were hungry and obviously not wiling to wait that long! The hostess (thanks Eliza!) was super sweet and gave us a 10% discount if we went to the new location on La Cienaga. Once we got there, we were seated promptly and the decor and ambiance was very modern and spacious! As for the food, everything looked pretty plain and overpriced, but we settled on ordering Course C (serves 3). Their panchan was probably the tipping point of why we wanted to go there, but it was actually pretty mediocre. There were about 25-26 side dishes, all in very small portions as a taster/sampler style (which is a good thing, because you can always try it and ask for more!). The chadol came first and was pretty tough...not like other briskets where its super soft and a little more fat and easier to chew. (not recommended) The prime galbi was pretty good! Very tender and soft. (recommend) The joo mul luk (back meat) was very tender also...but at this point I was up to my ears in meat and couldn't really eat any more. (recommend) Their house sauce was the usual sweet soy sauce and the sesame oil w/salt. Customer service was pretty good (thanks Tony!) but the dinner rush made it slower as the night went on. Waiter was always very nice and gave us some free shots and green tea ice cream at the end of your meal! I won't be coming back just because I can get the same or even better quality Korean BBQ for a fraction of the price. Luckily, with the 10% discount we saved the tax, but still...$85 for this was not worth it. Valet was $6 in a small lot...but hey, that's LA for you!

Our server Renee was one of the best servers I've ever come across! She helped us order the right amount of food and recommended the best items! Good quality was good, portions were perfect, and the sides were the perfect touch! All the staff was extremely attentive. I'll definitely come here again!

They just opened up this new location aside from the one in Wilshire and I wanted to give my shout out to the girls there in WIlshire (Beverly and Eliza--i hope i spelled her name right) and certainly it is the best. Also another shout out to Sara and Francis (they are simply AMAZING). Normally we would get the Galbi, it's perfectly marinated and the meat is tender, this is a must order. Also try the bibimbop they would ask you how spicy do you want to go with it, what you can do to this (especially i like the rice crispy) is to let it stay on the hot stone pot for a bit before eating, then it adds this crunchiness, one of my fave as well is the yellow corvina, the fish tastes delicious plus this fish comes with a lot of roe in it. Theres more to than just what i mentioned, but you must come and give it a try...=)

This is our 3rd visit here but likely our last, our visit on 5/1/2014 was a disaster!!!When we arrived, there were maybe 5 or 6 tables being served, we were sat and served quickly, but the server disappeared after a few minutes then some random server (number 2)showed up(we had been waiting for 20 minutes for refills of drinks and side dishes)the soup we ordered had also been sitting unattended for the same lenght of time waiting for someone to debone the beef, after the female server took care of that, and when we told her that the Wagu beef we had ordered wasn't to our liking she feigned to be deaf,so much for her help!!! then a random 3rd server was attempting to take care of us made a 2 minute appearance and pulled a Houdini on us once more, enter server number 4 who brought our check and packed our soup to go then took our check and credit card somewhere and after another 20 minutes had to go to the front desk to complain and another guy said let me go see what happened, what it was is that the credit card ringer wasn't even aware that the server had left our check on his counter,he did apologize for it but we were already upset and left very unhappy. Also there should be an option for patrons to park themselves if place is very empty and avoid their overpriced valet service.

We found Genwa on yelp and tried it based on the positive reviews. We couldn't agree with those reviews more! The food was excellent and the service was phenomenal. Our server, Christine, was attentive to our every need and as friendly as can be. We will definitely be going back soon!

  • Huda B.

You get what you pay for. Food was delicious. Endless sides, many of which are not regular options at other K BBQ places. Service was superb. We wanted for nothing, ever. We had someone there cooking our meats constantly AND he wasn't bad on the eyes either. I've been to both this location and the Wilshire one and both were great. This one is much less crowded but that's because it was new. I'm sure the waits will be getting long soon enough-if they haven't already.

  • S W.

Great place for families and groups! Service is top notch - waiters patiently explained everything to us and also helped to manage the meat while cooking, which frees up so much time for everyone else to just enjoy the meal and catch up. They also brought a special plate, rice, seaweed paper and homemade daikon soup for our daughter, without us asking! We ordered the Course E (recommended for 4) and one additional dish for 5 people, and it was great. We may not have needed the additional dish, but having said that, no food was left. While you don't need a reservation and there is no wait (Sunday night), I'd strongly recommend calling ahead. Given the level of attention the servers provide, I think they deserve a heads-up. Parking: Valet for $5.50, but I found out there's also street parking behind the SLS hotel next block down, which is free.

Wowww. A+++. Don't know where to begin. Bipimibap, noodles, practically every beef dish is absolutely amazing. You can taste the meat quality, it melts in your mouth. Everything from A to Z is done right, sides, entrees, service...everything. You might pay 2-3x of Gyu Kaku, but this place definitely justifies the higher prices and then some.

  • brett m.

We chose here because it was close to our hotel SLS. Right across the street. Good thing too, we ate so much we could barely walk back. E sides covered 1/2 of the table, bulgogi tasty and tender, service couldn't be better, very enjoyable meal.

I've been living in California for a couple years now and my friend recommended Genwa to me. I heard a lot of celebrities go there too so I wanted to see what all the hype was about! The restaurant is just how I thought it would be- Clean and an enjoyable atmosphere. You get the option to choose between different courses and the service was fast. All the workers were friendly and the meat was high quality! I also liked how much they give you so you definitely get a bang for your buck. I would recommend this to a friend and will go to Genwa again for sure!

My husband and I came here for the first time on a friend's recommendation last weekend for late lunch. They didn't disappoint! We ordered course A - the meat was perfectly marinated and the food selection was plenty, way too much to be honest. The best part was the server - he cooked everything on the grill for us. When they brought the meat, I was expecting them to tell us how long to cook each piece for. Nope he did it all for us and was cooked perfectly. He also refilled our drinks. Oh and the 25 banchans are great too. I do wish they had fried fish as a ban chan though.

  • sang h.

I was there tonite for the first time. Service is bettet than average and the quality of their beef is compatible to Park's of Vermont Ave or Chosun Galbi on Olympic. Their side dishes come in a very small portion but very tastey and refill at request. Stay with bbq, their hot pot bibimbop, octopus casserole, and gimchi jjigae was waste of money. I will go back in the future but I will just stick with their bbq only.

Genwa has amazing korean food. My family and I have been their loyal customers for almost 3 years. They never fail to impress us with their service and food. What's great is that this location has everything that the other Genwa has plus more space. I'm so glad that they expanded to this location because it isn't as much of a hassle to drive out to from where I live.

Here with my pals Geovanny and Kim Aveno. My coworkers decided we wanted to have Korean BBQ that wasn't too far from work. We decided to try this place due to the Yelp reviews. The decor was great and it definitely helped that they had the football game on as well. The waiter was helpful in suggesting on what we should order. We loved the many sides they provided us. The meat was great and so was the ice cold beer. The only thing I would have to say as a con was that we wanted to cook our own food but we must of had 5 different people come to our table and cook the food for us. We went to this place thinking we would be able to do it ourselves because we love the experience of it but I guess all in all it wasn't bad that they did. It was pricier than what we expected so we all agreed this was probably going to be a one time experience. Next time, we'll just head over to Korea town in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Great Korean BBQ with impeccable service. The food is fresh, and i think it is better than their Wilshire sore in terms of both service and food quality. Their unseasoned pork mixed with kimche and sprouts are a must have!!!

I was a little worried about going to a Korean bbq in Beverly Hills but this place was great. The restaurant is brightly lit, nicely decorated, well ventilated (so you don't smell like smoke afterward), and easy to get into (i.e., exactly the opposite most Korean bbq places). You get 20 or more banchan (free side dishes), all of which are delicious and all of which they happily refill for you. We had a group of five so we got one of the pre-set courses, which included galbi, ribeye, shrimp, scallops, salad, japchae (noodles), jigae (stew), and soju. Even after supplementing with a few additional dishes and plenty of alcohol, we still spent less than $40 per person. The server even brought birthday shots for everyone and like all good servers did a shot with us. And when he wasn't drinking with us, the server was very attentive refilling our banchan and soju. Valet is $5.50 or you can sometimes find street parking down the side street. For those of us on the westside, this place is far more convenient than driving all the way to K-town. We will definitely be back.

This place was phenomenal! The food outstanding, the 'extra's' exemplary and the service par excellence. And oh...the prices magnificent. This is the place to go after a night at the Saban theatre.

Pretty good korean bbq. Although little steep but quality is good. Young wait staff but some with rather good knowledge of the cuisine. Supposedly more "authentic" than the other location due to the chefs being from the previous korean restaurant at the same location. But what do i know. Overall great food - ordered the galbee and beef tongue. Both were very good.

Down grade from the Wilshire spot. Price is a bit higher than a regular kbbq joint but the lack of smoke and service usually made it worth it. Not true at the new local. No wait when we arrived so def a plus but we had to ask a few times for items in our order that wasn't brought out. The rice showed up at the end of our meal and when they refilled the side dishes they brought everything besides the four we asked for. One server came by and turned our grill off in the middle of cooking and the next server noticed so he turned it back on and when the other server passed by she turned it down again. This made cooking a challenge. They seemed properly staffed and seeing as the place wasn't packed Im assuming that the staff is just less professional than the Wilshire spot which makes me feel the price bump isn't worth it anymore. Wouldn't recommend this spot on the same level as the old one.

We read the L,A Times article about this restaurant-since we are out dinning 4-5 days a week-we want to try out,we went on Friday night at 6:00p.m. restaurant was almost empty, nice atmosephia ,those rave about 23 small BANCHAN was not impressive, nothing is special -usual Korean Banchan -very very tiny portion, which is okay if you want more they will bring for you, this kind of pricey menu-Banchan should be very special-just ordinarily - main dish were also mediocre-service was not impressive either -they forgot my soup- and waters, meal was almost over waiter show up to bring the soup. we never go there again.

We will never, ever go back. I called before we went to find out how long we could expect to wait. The hostess asked me how far away we were & then said she'd give me a reservation & asked me for my name (and had me spell it several times). We arrived, learned that our name wasn't on the list & were told we could just go to the packed bar area and wait 45 minutes for a table. We said no way & walked out. Good riddance. I assume this is a regular practice here. You're much better off going to Soowon Galbi. Much better food & half the price.

Genwa is my favorite KBBQ restaurant! It's not AYCE, but with a million AYCE banchans, you don't need AYCE meat anyway. I'd been wanting to try Genwa for the past year and was excited for this new location in BH. They grand opened a week ago and we came this past Saturday around 8 pm. Valet parking is $6 and the restaurant wasn't that busy surprisingly, so we were seated immediately. Being first timers, the three of us decided to go with Course C ($85), which serves three and includes: - House Salad - Bibimbap (or Dwenjang Jigae or Kimchee Jigae) - Cha Dol - Joo Mul Luk - Prime Galbi - Soju This along with the 26 banchan and an order of Duk Bok Gi ($14) was so. Much. Food. We managed to finish it all but next time, we'll probably go with a course for two instead. Unless you eat a lot, I advise doing the same and order less. Not really a fan of KBBQ, I thought everything was pretty tasty and very filling. After our meal, a server gave us wet hand towelettes, candy, as well as Korean dessert. The service was just okay. At first, there were a million servers who were friendly and seemed attentive, but after awhile, they just seemed to ignore us. The only person who remained attentive was the guy refilling our waters. All the other servers just constantly walked by us and didn't bother asking us if we needed anything. It also took awhile for anyone to take our bill at the end of our meal, so I held the bill with a raised hand so they'd notice. The ambience is more upscale than your usual KBBQ joint, which fits the neighborhood Genwa is situated in. However, there were ~10 ants crawling on the wall and windowsill next to us, so we were kind of grossed out. It was also bit too dark inside, and I was curious as to why they didn't roll up the window covers when nighttime fell. On the bright side, I don't know what kind of ventilation they use but none of us left the restaurant smelling like smoke, which was awesome! I eat KBBQ about twice a year, so I'm in no hurry to come back. But if I ever want KBBQ, I'll definitely come here again or their original location in K-town.

My favorite Korean BBQ in ALL of Los Angeles. I usually frequent the original place on Wilshire Boulevard. The food is the same, but this location is bigger, so its perfect if you have a huge party.

  • Tina N.

I ventured out looking for some quality KBBQ without having to drive the distance and go into the original location in Ktown. We went on a Saturday night around 7pm and waited for about 20-25 minutes, not too bad. There's a bar so you could drink while you wait. The restaurant is huge and doesn't have that stench of smokey KBBQ. The side dishes were heavenly because of the amount they had and because I was super hungry already. We ordered the Combo A, cheapest thing on the menu. $60 for 2 people. We got the bulgogi, galbi, jap chae, and soon tofu. I'm always a sucker for the galbi and bulgogi at any KBBQ place and didn't see much of a difference between this place and cheaper AYCE. You're pretty much payer for a nice ambiance, good service, and 3x the usual amount of side dishes. Everything was delicious, especially the oyster side dish. I wish we could've gotten more but they said they were out for the night, which was a real bummer. Didn't know it until we got the check but extra egg soup is also an extra $2. Luckily those side dishes got me to a really good full. All in all a great restaurant but I think I'll go for cheaper AYCE next time.

Best Korean BBQ place I have ever eaten at! That atmosphere was very sophisticated, lighting was very very dim and of The food is wonderful, TONS of side dishes and the hot rice bowls (you can choose the level of spiciness), meat and soup are delicious!! We had the pork belly (best thing on the menu says the servers), the bulgolgi and some rice dishes and tofu soups (delicious broth). The service was especially amazing (Shout out to Sarah and Jean)! The staff was extremely accommodating with our large group. They split the rice and soup in individual bowls for us and cooked and cut our meat! Usually we would have to do this ourselves but they went out of their way to give the best customer service! and keep in mind that we had a 9:30 reservation for 9 people and they close at 10 so I can just imagine our tired they were but they were still so energetic and really left a positive impression on all of us. **Just a tip, if you have a large group you MUST have a reservation. Will definitely be visiting Genwa again ! OH. and the parking lot is small and I believe it's valet only but it's like $6

  • Cherish H.

I love the OG Genwa.... This one has a different vibe! It's gorgeous, gigantic, and just as delicious. The pan chan is the best in the west!!!! And the service is impeccable. How can you go wrong when you first come around and find 50 dishes of appetizers in front of you?! Plus they have grills that suck the smokey air into the table instead of making you smell like pure meat when you walk out. Love love love. Definitely recommend for some bomb Korean food with that classy feel!!! Yummilicious factor - A+

I like Genwa and love their orig location on Wilshire. This is a new location and is more convenient for me (it's closer and there isn't a wait most of the times). The food seems to be the same, but the service was an issue at first. When I visited right when they opened, they had issues with the staff and the kitchen, but my second visit was WAY better. It's your classic / standard Genwa fair - different combo meals that offer a variety of meats and side dishes as well as soups included. Some of the combos even come with soju. I like the BevHills location more b/c it's more spacious but I think the pricing is a bit higher than the wilshire and the service isn't as good (it's a much bigger space though). Overall, I'd come back here again.

Totally overpriced for Korean BBQ, but nice ambiance. Gotta love Beverly Hills! I still think the Korean BBQ is much better at Cham Sut Gol, though. :-) Andddd...you can't beat the price there!

Friendly and informative staff, but slow service. Great quality of meat, and quite pricey. We ordered a combo serving three people with unlimited salad and banchans, one steamed egg, three kinds of meat, one bibimbap, and one jap chae (glass noodle) in replacement of soju for $85 Valet parking costs $5.50

By far THE BEST KBBQ IN TOWN!!!!! Everything from the ambience, the food & the workers we're exceptional!!!! My boyfriend & I went here on a Wednesday night to celebrate his special day. I called a few hours before to make reservations. We got there around 7:30 & was seated immediately. Upon arrive the hostess greeted my boyfriend a happy birthday. We ordered letter A for 2 people ($55). It came with Prime Galbi (amazing) & cha dol (brisket). Along with our meal was tofu soup (very spicy), rice, steamed egg, cold noodles, salad and I kid you not at least 20 ban chans (side dishes)! Everything was amazing!!!! There was enough food to feed at least 3 people. The waiters were phenomenal! I rate them an A plus plus!!! They were on top of everything and even cooked our meat for us. They consistently checked up on us, to see how we were doing. Exceptional customer service. The cake topper why I rated this establishment a 5 star was when they sang Happy Bday to my bf, gave each of us our own ice cream dessert & free shots!!!! (Yes I said free ALCOHOL) I kindly told them that we both don't drink but thank you for the kind gesture & that they can have the shots. So they processed without hesitant to drink the shots. (I'm sure it made their night ;)!) If you love kbbq as much as I do, Genwa is a must! Make sure you go there with an empty stomach. You will surely leave with a satisfied tummy!!!!

Extremely disappointed when I came here last year. We brought a European friend here for his first taste of real Korean BBQ and he was also disappointed. The side dishes (aka "banchan" in Korean) took some time to come out, and they weren't that busy. In addition, the banchan were mediocre at best. We also ordered some spicy rice cake (duk bok ki) which was also okay. What really bothered me was it took them forever to bring out the meat--and we weren't alone. It seemed they might of had a shortage or they didn't prepare/defrost enough meat. By the the time they brought it to us (50-55 mins after being seated), we were full from the banchan. Luckily I was still pescatarian at the time, but my friends were irritated to say the least--obviously the meat didn't taste as good, and even our friend from out of town thought it was okay. The staff never apologized, did not offer to provide us any compensation (dessert/removal of some dishes from our tab), but kept telling us the meat was coming. Unless you want to spend two hours eating overpriced Korean BBQ... DON'T.COME.HERE.

Kinda too sweet for me..dunno if it's the course problem...we ordered the course C, n it's totally enough for 3 girls! We r so full...n the side dishes r just gr8, including beef n steaming egg!though kinda sweet as well....The environment is good btw..We didn't have in time service for helping with the BBQ sometimes we have to cook for our shelves, on which I believe hutong Jung is doing better! Less sugar wud be so much better:)

Genwa I always love you! I have been to the other one, but this was the first time I went to this one. The place was more upscale, and expensive than other korean places. They also had valet parking ($5.50). It was easy to make RSVP for a group of 6 only 1-2 hours ahead of hand. The bill for 6 was $210 and we ate ourselves into a food coma. We had over 30 sides! We got 3 meats for bbq (bulgogi, brisket, and galbi), japchae, and 2 soups. The service was okay, but they seemed like they were understaffed and we had to keep on flagging them down. I like Genwa due to the qualify over some of the AYCE places and relative to NYC or SF the food is cheap and great here. If I lived in LA i might explore other places, but this is a great place for groups and catching up. They also have course sets for groups under 5 which cover everything you might want to eat. The only thing I wish they had were the seafood pancakes!

I thought this place would pale in comparison to the authentic places in K-town but I was wrong. Instead the quality (and amount) of good was a really pleasant surprise. What's more, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Something that can't be said for the rest of the restaurants along La Cienega. We went two days in a row ;-)

This place is really good. They are very attentive. You get so much more than what you expect to get. Everything I ate was really good. This is defiantly the much better choice than the place across the street.

Genwa is definitely one of my preferred korean bbq restaurants. The service is usual great and you get a crazy amount panchan. The prices could be considered on the higher side but meat has always been delicious. I would suggest going for one of their "courses" which include meat, a side dish, and soju. I usually go to their Wilshire location but I may go to this location from now on. The restaurant was huge, it had valet, the service was perfect and there was no wait - versus the Wilshire spot which usually estimates about a 45min wait.

Just been there for 2 people for Combo A. It so good. Great service and we love the side dishes. The galbi and bulgogi marinated so good. No need any sauce with the meat. We will definitely come back.

Worth the hype!!! The assorted mushroom appetizer was amazing, bulgogi always a favorite!! So much for not eating carbs but the bibimbap was crunchy and delicious!! Love the salad it's simple and refreshing and I liked a few of the crazy lil free dishes- lotus root is my fave! Awesome service, even though it's a cook it yourself style they constantly came over and made sure we had what we needed with a smile and even cooked our meat!! My husband who is a hard critic gave it a 9 we will be back! They were great touches like the hot hand towels and lollipops at the end if the meal!!

I've never had Korean BBQ before so this was a first. I went with a party of 8 and thank God we had a guy from Korea at our table!! He had to explain what do do with those 20 side dishes they bring! The server cooked our meat and then you take little pancake thing, add sauce, add cooked meat and then go in on the side dishes to add to the pancake taco. i love pancacke taco's.

Genwa offers a KBBQ experience that is different than what I am used to in LA. Normally I am looking for an all you can eat place to stuff myself silly, but this is not what you will get at Genwa. Genwa delivers a high quality meal with better ingredients and better balance. The service was good as well for how busy it was. They provide you with many sides and have set meals you can buy for a certain number of people. Our group opted for the Course C (3 person) meal and it was more than enough. I left the meal feeling very satisfied and not as guilty as I usually do after KBBQ. The overall flavor and taste of everything was better than what I have had at other places so that is a plus. The bi bim bop was probably one of the best that I have had and the meats were all tender and flavorful. Normally sides at Korean places are an after thought but here each of them all tasted good. We ended up eating two rounds of EVERYTHING. They also included some veggies to grill which I enjoyed to eat between the meaty bits. One thing that puts me off to Genwa is the price. I just can't get the notion out of my head that I can pay the same price or even less for an all you can eat place. I guess if youre hinging on coming here as opposed to another place think about the intention of the meal. If you want it to be nice meal over some great tasting KBBQ pick here. If you want to stuff yourself with a ton of KBBQ and dont mind your environment too much go somewhere else. Overall a great restaurant and I will definitely be coming back here! Main Takeaways: -Great overall quality of food -Portions will leave you satisfied not stuffed -Service and interior is nicer than other KBBQ places

Hits and misses. HITS: Service is always satisfactory, and a few of their dishes are authentic and delicious. The interior decor is spacious and modern. MISSES: The mandatory valet when I'm the only car in the lot. There was a bug in my rice cake during my first visit. During my second visit, vegetables were rotten. They need to do a more thorough quality check. The 25 banchan (side dishes) is more about quantity than quality. I'd rather have a few delicious side dishes than dozens of subpar ones. I have yet to understand the hype about Genwa. I feel as though they try to cater to and attract diners with oohs and aahs of gimmicks rather than quality of cuisine. I would not go to Genwa on my own, and I would not suggest it to people who want authentic, delicious Korean food. However, I would recommend this restaurant to people who conduct business meetings at restaurants or for those who want to impress non-Korean people with Korean cuisine.

I've had better kbbq. Service was super slow and our waitress was not friendly at all. Service can be a struggle. The food is nothing special but just ok. If you like banchan then this place is banchan king.

My cousins and I met here for a reunion. They gave us a private room because there were 12 of us. The service was amazing, especially our server Sarah. They were so helpful, quick, and friendly. I was very impressed and would definitely go back. Thank you!

Finally, a smokeless Korean bbq restaurant. None of the hair smelling, clothes smelling one usually get after grilling. The price is a bit expensive but the service, quality of meat, enormous scallops, and delicious ban chan is worth every penny. Not your typical AYCE korean bbq. I will definitely come back with more friends in tow.

First time eating K-BBQ and i was stunned. wen they started bringing all those little side plates i felt overwhelmed. Im not kidding, i was a K-BBQ illiterate. However, ot was a great cilinary experience. Would definitely recommend this place for famolies, friends or couples. Good for everyone with an adventurous palate. Very friendly staff whi are not afraid of walking you through the food.

Best Korean restaurant I know, substitution for their combos/meat , even if the meat is cheaper, they will charge you extra. That does not make sense. Other than that, I highly recommend this restaurant.

The place is fancy. It's also pretty pricey because of the location. Overall, my friends and my experience here was great. First, we were served a complimentary pumpkin dessert. One of my friends and I ordered Course A, which included house salad, soon tofo, japchae, prime galbi, and we picked cha dol. As for seafood, we tried the shrimp, scallop & lobster dish (seasoned black tiger shrimp, scallop and lobster). It was alright. I'm not a huge fan of this though, so yea... The customer service was awesome! One of the female servers was cool and very interactive in our conversation while we tried to digest our food. We were so stuffed from Course A. It was supposed to serve 2 people, but it served more than 4 (girls!) In the end, we paid for our bill and we each got a free foot-shaped candy to suck on. Interesting.

  • Clelia E.

Been there twice already, the second time being my favorite. I would definitely go back. It can be pricey if you go with the single menu items but if you go with their pre-set menu, it's reasonable. Pro: - you don't smell like smoke - fantastic food - X amount of side dishes - great meat quality - really responsive service before any rush Cons: - you don't smell like smoke, so you might be wondering if you had real Korean BBQ. - slow service when it gets super busy - parking can be a pain but they do have valet

We were directed to this location after being told the wait was going to be 45 minutes at the location off Wilshire. Come here first if you don't want to wait! This place has the BEST Korean BBQ I've ever had. All the meats are so flavorful and tender. They also give you a million sides and they're all pretty good. I went with two other people and we ordered the combo for 4 people. Perfect amount of food and it also came with a small bottle of sake. We had an awesome server too but I forgot his name. He was kind enough to send our table a round of lychee shots! Yummm :)

A very upscale KBBQ located in Beverly Hills, Genwa emphasizes quality over quantity. The meat is very lean and fresh, and the place has no smoke or smell. It's not an all-you-can-eat, but there was definitely still enough food to be satisfied but not stuffed. As "upscale KBBQ" goes, Genwa is probably the best one out there... and you don't have to travel to k-town either!

    (5)
  • Deborah Z.

Best Korean BBQ restaurant and very local. I don't like going all the way to Korea town for KBBQ. The prime galbi is a must! Better than any meat I've had at other KBBQ restaurants. Kind of pricey, but definitely worth it. The veggie glass noodles are good (forgot what they're actually called). The waiters are very friendly. Very busy on Saturday nights, might want to make a reservation. Valet parking right outside, it's very difficult to find street parking.

I loved this place it was really good. I don't remember which letter we got but it was only 69.99 for two people and it comes with a lot of meat and sides. They also bring you free candy with your check. They come around a lot to check up on you and grill the meat.

We love KBBQ and we have been trying to try new ones all the time, so to we make use of the fact that we are spoiled here in so cal with a plethora of excellent choices. So much so there are top ten lists and best of... I decided this time to check out who was on best of list on Yelp and top ten on LA Weekly. Finding out Genwa is top on both I said lets try it out. Called in to the Wilshire location and they said they had a wait go to La Cienega location no wait. I find out it is in Beverly Hills; which is perfect because my hot date was already waiting for me in 90210. So I swoop her up and head on over to the fancy resto district. Valet of course ($5.50) walk on in and they greet us and seat us immediately. Awesome it is 710pm on a Friday night. Place is half full but is so clean and hip looking for a KBBQ place. Then call me a rookie or low class kbbq'er but they got suction on the bbq grill. What no stick smoke all over you?!?! Then comes out the multitude of Banchan. The main reason I picked this spot. We love banchan. I can eat just banchan and have started to stray from ayce's because I have to eat my money's worth. As opposed to eating quality and exactly what I want. We order the Brisket, Galbi Jim, and the Bibimbap. The Brisket was excellent and in the future I want the Wagyu. And though I enjoyed the other two I dont think I would order it again. Their service here is excellent and no korean resto waiter call button. Which I noticed right away. There is no need for one. They have waiters walking around every minute flipping meat for you. Also they have mexican coke. Must have coke with KBBQ, always so full I need the carbonation.. Oh and final thought if you are on a date and you really want KBBQ this is the spot to go to impress. Not end up stinking. And getting a sucker at the end of the meal, I mean lollipop.

FInally, a good Korean restaurant in the west side. The food is great, but as I was sitting there eating with my wife, I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone (totally dated myself as an old person). What I mean is that consciously, I knew I was eating good Korean BBQ, but the service was actually very good and the room was not filled with smoke from the grilled meat. I couldn't believe that I ate Korean BBQ and didn't walk out smelling like grilled meat. Anyway, the Bi Bim Bop was quite extraordinary, and you have to try it. Best of all, if you are a big fan of ban chan (small sides for those not well versed in Korean cuisine), is the best I have ever had, in terms of quality, taste and most of all in selection. This is a must have for those who enjoy Korean food.

I had been reading the reviews from yelp and heard from my coworkers about this restaurant last week and finally i did make it last night with my friends. It was amazing eventhough we have to wait almost half and hour but it worth for it. Quite clean and not greasy like typical korean bbq restaurants on Wilshire. Variety of side dishes love the prime galbi so tender and yummy. Definitely will come back next week with my family but not on Friday for sure.

Hands down one of the best Korean bbq places in town, and a lot more convenient being centrally located by WeHo/BH. High quality food, unlimited side dishes (and a ton of them), and good ambience. Great value for the cost.

Have been to this location 3 times now and every single experience has been incredible. The staff is so knowledgable about EVERYTHING, it's almost scary. They are more than happy to explain each and every Banchan to you AND will give you more of the ones you like - just ask!! The courses come with SO MUCH FOOD and is totally worth the price.. not like it's even expensive. I have only ever gone with 1 other person so we get course A and add a half order of the spicy chicken because it is SO DAMN GOOD. (Side note: the chicken is cooked in the kitchen, not on the table grill). I also love that these grills suck the smoke in so you don't leave smelling like beef. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. Extremely high ceilings, spacious granite tables, and perfectly dim lighting. I really can't think of anything bad to say about this place. In love. SHOUT OUT to our amazing waitress Christine last night who was absolutely incredible. Thank you so much!!

4 adults, 2 of each sex, ordered Combo D, PLENTY of food. 5 different kinds of meats. A wide variety from not fatty to fatty. You have to order GLASS NOODLES. The best noodle hands down. Easy to chew without being inedible. Some places you have to chew chew chew. 30 panchans, enough said. You won't regret going. $50 bucks a person, well worth it. Staff will cook and cut all your meats for the entire meal. $5.50 parking lot right next to Lawrys, same side of the street as Genwa and Lawrys if you don't like valet.

Amazing bbq, and without the farmboy k-town bullshi*. Also a plus, I didn't smell like a smokehouse chimney after I left. Five stars.

  • Alex H.

This Genwa is exactly the same as the other one in service and quality. What stands out for this location is its proximity to the west side AND it does not have the lines associated with the other place. Its nice to find a KBBQ joint on La Cienega! Please note that they also have awesome lunch items...you don't have to worry about smelling like bbq cause their tables suck the air and on request, they can cook the stuff in the kitchen. Great place to have company parties..they have a huge banquet room overseeing the dining area and numerous private dining areas. This place is probably the best looking Korean restaurant.

Oh my, I was so stuffed by the end of the meal I was walking like that huge marshmallow guy in Ghostbusters. Me and DP ordered the course A. So much variety it was like a buffet. The meat was tasty, I loved all the side dishes and the servers were fantastic. I don't know how they managed to have the perfect timing to come to our table to attend to everything on the grill. Looks like this location hasn't caught on yet, we were able to be seated immediately. But I'm sure the secret will get out soon and it will be as packed as the original location. This is a great alternative to the more raucous, casual Japanese-style Korean BBQ of Gyukaku across the street.

I had the best Korean bbq dining experience here. And the most expensive Korean bbq dinner. Do not come here if you expect all you can eat because it is not and do not come here if your not willing to drop about 70$ and up on a meal for two. The quality of the food is so good. The waiters are also really nice and attentive.

  • Diana N.

I came here for lunch with my coworkers on a Friday and it was not busy at all. According to the waitress, this location has been opened for about three months. We ordered off of the lunch menu and got the spicy pork, bulgogi, and salmon teriyaki. It came out to be ~$16 per person not including tip. Genwa is known for the large number of side dishes that they provide and they did not disappoint. The service was excellent because the waitress and the waiter checked up on us numerous times to make sure we had our side dishes filled. I'm glad there is new lunch spot option in this area!

I want to give Genwa a 3.75. I feel bad giving it 3 stars, but I don't think it deserves 4 stars either. Nothing was terribly bad. The restaurant is 2 stories and can accommodate a large party, the service was okay, and the food was okay too. I especially love how they line up the numerous side dishes. Good presentation perfect for instagram! ;) Only thing you gotta remember is you are dining in Beverly Hills, so they do cater more to an American palate.

Genwa is absolutely the best KBBQ in LA and probably many other places, including Korea. Well, that's just hearsay, I've never been to Korea, but because I've gone with Korean friends who have pathetically gone into somber "I miss Korea" mode when they've eaten the food....I can only imagine. If you've been to their original location, don't expect the exact same rubber stamped restaurant and energy. First of all, why would you want that? This is Genwa's sexier brother, or sister, depending on how you swing. This location is swanky, open, BIG! And it sooooo works! You feel like you're somewhere else in this location and although it's large and open, it's comfortable, warm, and inviting. The service is just as amazing as the original. Fit for Kings...or royal babies (had to throw that in). So attentive, every time someone walks by they do something for you, pour your sake/soju, flip or cut your meat, take away empty dishes. I wish every restaurant had service like this. When they put the banchan down it feels like it's never going to end! There are so many, it's a beautiful display and every single one of them are delicious. I want to eat my way out of a swimming pool full of Genwa's kimchee! Can I just do that? Please!!!! Overall, I think the presentation is actually better at this location....is that even possible???? Prices are the same, but I feel like I'm getting a better value. Maybe it's because of the poshness of the location. It's a great place and a great place to bring people to because they make you feel so important. I came as a party of four but saw a couple of large parties and could see it's a great venue for that. Best meal and service I've had in a LONG time. An easy five stars!!!

delicious kalbi! rivals the best in koreatown but doesn't quite get there. it has a fairly upscale vibe, with high-ceilings in the general seating area that are still private with the booths, and smaller private rooms on the side. i didn't like the private rooms as much (felt cramped and enclosed relatively speaking). the food and sides are plentiful, i feel bad for the guy stuck doing all their dishes!

Ambiance and food quality were excellent, but service was a little rough. The staff really could use some training. At these prices, I feel that patrons should go home feeling like they've been spoiled.

I had my reservations about an expensive KBBQ spot that was not in K-Town. I decided to give it a try since it takes a minute to walk there, and left pleasantly full and surprised. You definitely get what you pay for. It's nice, clean and spacious. The quality of meat is great as well as the service. Genwa is friendly for those who are not Korean. The menu is in both Korean and English, with lots of photos showing the types of meat. My least favorite thing is the salad (not that you're going there to eat in anyway, but the dressing was bland). My favorite was the bibimbap. Def worth a try.

Since I love the other Genwa location so much, I decided to check this new one out. I was a little wary of the location because I had been here when it was Woo Lae Oak and I didn't love that place. I was happy that this Genwa is just as great as the Wilshire location. It's MUCH bigger which is good bc the other location is pretty small and there is normally a very long wait on the weekends. During the meal, the service was great-they checked on us many times to help bbq our food. However, once the meal was ending and we wanted the check, it took a very long time to locate a server. Other than that, a great experience. A fun highlight is the lollipops you get with your check :)

I came here for a private party upstairs, and they were attentive and incredibly welcoming. The decor inside is gorgeous - spacious and tastefully done, and it doesn't reek of smoke the way some of the older KBBQ places do. As for the food, there was a really great selection of small dishes (highlights include the potato salad and the pickled radish), and the beef bulgogi we ordered was perfectly seasoned: not too greasy or salty. Kudos for the purple rice too. My only regret is that we didn't fire up the karaoke ;) Highly recommend!

  • Miao W.

It hurts to say this Genwa was slightly disappointing. To be fair, the food was great, and the wait staff definitely tried (our server even explained what the 23 ban chans were one by one. For a second I thought I was having a Michelin star omakase). But with an evident rookie factor and lack of continuity we just didn't feel as giddily overwhelmed by the graciously hospitable tableside service experienced at the other location. The ceiling was too high. Most second child in the family live under the pressure of being compared to the firstborn, of being always outran, outsexed outshined. But comparison creates narratives which is why people are competitive and therefore it's natural and inevitable. So until you become who you truly wanna be, just focus on growing up.

This location is so different from the Wilshire Blvd location. Decor is comparable but food quality just falls far below the other one. I also was horrified at how inappropriately dressed the hostess was especially for dinner service. Cheap grey jeans, a worn out beachy top and cheap wedge slippers. If the waitstaff are all in black this looks awful for the image of the restaurant. The galbi bbq was mediocre in quality and no one checked the bbq heat which was too high and burned it. Why not assign one wait staff to each table rather than have random ones walk by? The soon doo boo tofu was also overcooked and flavor less. Honestly just wanted to go across the street to Gyugaku.

An amazing place! The staff was beyond kind and helpful, full service. The courses were timely and delicious, outstanding Bulgogi. The side dishes were a great selling point for me, a lot of variety and flavor. I will defiantly be going back. They just opened but they've got it down, hope to see this place take off!!!

Went to this restaurant on a sunday for a friend's birthday. It is across from where I work so have been wanting to try it out. The place is spanking clean and sparkly. Even my very picky friend mentioned that. The menu was nice and the dishes on the pricier side, but this is beverly hills after all. I think the Wagyu was $68. We did a 4-5 person course set for $165 and several bottles of beer. Bill was about $250 for 5 people. They add on 20% gratuity automatically. The meat was good, especially impressed with prime galbi. The Japchae portion is very small. The bibimbap had an interesting taste that I never tried before, but still good. They had tons of side dishes but they were super small. But they brought out like 20 of them. What sets this place apart from others is the service. They are really really great. There are like 3 people always attentive and serving you and bringing more the of the side dishes you like. And they brought out free green tea ice cream at the end for our friend's birthday and sang him a song. And they are very kid friendly. brought my two year old his own set of silverware, dishes, seaweed, soup and rice. I am coming back. It is really close.

only 4 stars because they did not refill the tea or water....we had to ask 3 times. the food was yummy with a lot of all those delicious ban chans....we had dinner A it was good but the soon duboo had too many onions and was warm not hot. next time we'll just order a la carte. the atmosphere was good but the food is not as tasty as chosen galbi but good enough for the west side.

Went to dinner nearby but the wait was too long so decided to give this place a try. I'm grateful the other place was crowded because this place was awesome. Food was great and our server Katie was fantastic with an amazing memory. Katie can remember 84 things you just ordered.

WOW, over 20 side items! A few honorable mentions for sides included the baby crabs, clams, potato salad, and Korean pancake. The brisket, boneless short ribs, and Kobe Wygu beef were all fantastic! Came here with a group of co-workers and love it. Will definitely be back!

As with most of the reviewers, we had the $55 course A for two. Approximately 25 panchan, all the usual suspects. Liked the fishcake the best. The panchan portions are small, but our primary server offered to refill any we liked. Arriving with the panchan, a small dish of pumpkin soup - kind of like a typical autumn squash soup. Our flame is ready and vegetables (king mushroom, squash) are added. Some japchae arrive. And then a soondubu jigae with egg - by itself it would have been a lunch portion for one. On the mild side. Brisket (cha dol) first out - thin sliced and tender. Really liked the wraps, which were thin slices of what seemed to be a giant daikon. Rice noodle wraps also furnished. Gochujang, a thinner chili sauce. and my favorite, sesame oil with salt and pepper. are provided for seasoning. Jalpaenos and garlic slices roasted in a small steel cup placed on the grill. Midway through dinner, a second portion of "house" noodles (similar to the jabchae, but with cellophane noodles) appeared, along with a bowl of savory custard. The latter reminded me of chawan mushi - I don;t know the Korean name. Kalbi were cut from prime beef and were fatty, tender and delicious. On balance, service was good, if something of a tag team. For beverages, we had a warm sake (nice pour) and a bottle of Saratoga. With tax and tip we were stuffed for about $100 for two. We were able to find convenient on street parking on a Wednesday night, There is valet otherwise at $5 plus tax.

Genwa is everything and some! I usually go to Gyu Kaku however, when I want to spoil myself I come here. The staff is super friendly and the location is huge. You can have a huge party upstairs for any event. The meat is grade and A and super clean. You can usually come in and dine without a reservation which is awesome for me because I don't live to far. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who's a fan of any kind of BBQ!

This is my favourite korean bbq place ever, and I've been to Korea. It's nice and clean, and the service is great. A little pricy, but it never went wrong. The Beverly Hills location has a much shorter wait than Wilshire.

Coming from someone who isn't a fan of korean BBQ. I loved this place. The staff were GREAT! Especially our waitress Gina who was super friendly. The food was great and the place itself was clean and not stuffy or smelly unlike most Korean BBQ spots. As far as the cost goes.. It was not bad.. 4 of us close a tab of a little over 200$ which was their meal special for 4 including a pitcher of beer.

We went with a party of 10 people on Mother's Day and had a wonderful experience there. My daughter had suggested another highly recommended Korean BBQ restaurant, the kind of restaurant where you leave smelling like smoke. I decided on Genwa because we had a couple of people in the party who were quite sensitive to smoke due to their asthma and I didn't want to take any chances. I picked Genwa because when I googled best Korean BBQ, it was at the top of the list. They have 2 locations and I chose the one in Beverly Hills on Restaurant Row on La Cienega because I had been inside of that restaurant when it was a different Korean BBQ and I knew it would be upscale. We chose 2 orders of Course D from their list of pre-fixe meals for our party of 10. Each order included a house salad, 20+ banchan side dishes, a choice of bibimbap, kimchee jigae (stew) or dwengjang jigae, then kot sal (prime boneless short ribs), joo mul luk (seasoned premium beef), prime galbi, prime bulgogi and soju. The price per course was $130 recommended for 4 people but 2 orders fed 10 of us to the point of being stuffed. The reception and wait staff were excellent. They were friendly, attentive and courteous. Having made reservations a few days in advance, we were offered a private room that seated 10 of us perfectly. There were sliding doors to adjoining private rooms to accommodate larger parties. There was not even a hint of smoke due to the very efficient venting that probably pulled the smoke under the grill. The grills were changed midway through the course to prevent any burnt on food from affecting the taste. The wait staff did all of the cooking, leaving the room and checking in at the perfect time to make sure that the meat didn't overcook. The meat was high quality, very tender and tasty. The evening ended with a complimentary peach flavored dessert shot of soju (in addition to the shot of soju during our meal). Everyone was given a rose shaped lollipop and the three moms in the group were given a small complimentary bottle of Chilean wine. Everyone in the party had eaten at other Korean BBQ restaurants and thought Genwa was delicious and top-rate. Even my picky-eater husband loved it. Valet parking is available for $5.50. I would recommend advance reservations for a large party.

It is like eating Korean art, involving all your senses. I took my ten year old son on a date here and we had an amazing night, he was so excited! They have 25 little authenic sides that are so fun to try, even for you finicky chicken only eaters. I was really impressed by the beauty, fragrance and flavors! Just delicious!

The set dinners offer superb value with several types of meat, tofu, noodles, steamed egg. Best of all the servers are very attentive and friendly! The wait is not too long either... overall an awesome establishment!
